I doubt Sony like it either - but it does make sense in the current economic market.
The PS3 is priced/positioned as a luxuary choice. It's price unlike 360 hasn't changed within the recession and a YoY drop was therefore almost inevitable - most consumer electronics companies I know (I work in retail) are seeing dips in most similar items YoY unless the price has dropped or something else is helping prop up demand.
The Wii for example has enough demand to withstand the change without a price drop - which interestingly implies that Nintendo could in fact have been selling it for a higher price without hurting demand prior to the current market conditions.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
