Forums - Gaming - Sony: Microsoft “writes cheques” for games thanks to first-party line-up insecurity

The only way SON¥ gets exclusives is if they make it themselves =P

I am waiting for Nintendo to show up at this party and look at Sony and laugh at how it is yapping about first party exclusives. And then it brings out a Wii and DS and have them nail Sony over and over with money the systems print.

Hmm... anyone know which first-party titles are free to produce?

Who gives a shit about it...this seems to be a win-win for M$ and the publishers. Sony buys the developer to keep them from free market gaming, whereas M$ takes the approach of funding specific projects, and allowing developers/publishers to freedom to work on other projects. The bottomline is how good is the end product, not how it was paid for. I'm not sure where this villiage idiot Koller is going with these statements. BTW, when M$ has one of the BIGGEST 1st party franchises in Halo, Koller is looking much like the village idiot.

"and Microsoft and other manufacturers probably lead a little bit when they’re writing cheques about how they feel about their own internal line-up."

Other manufacturers? I can't see anyone accusing Nintendo of moneyhatting. Nintendo's problem if anything is that they put too little pressure on devs.

So maybe he means Apple? Anyone heard rumours that Apple moneyhatted? Also, this is a good day for the Iphone if that was who he was refering to - you know you've entered the big league when others start talking shit about you

apple does kinda do that with flash ram they buy so much it bends prices.... also they bought up a few arm chip designers (what powers ipods/iphones and crusie missles) .... oh and what become osx was once Nextstep.... um and Itunes it was someone elses..... final cut too..... hmmm and that new distributed version of final cut was a more recent aquisition ....

dont get me wrong i love apple but the go out and buy then improve and release alot of times even the original mac os was part of a purchase deal for stock from xerox.

I

They can't help that their flash based products are so popular

The company NeXT was founded by Steve Jobs when he was kicked out of Apple. It then merged with Apple upon Steve Jobs' return.

Itunes was indeed based on code that was purchased.

I have no idea about Final Cut, but you're probably right.

But that wasn't really the question I was asking. I was more meaning any games that had appeared on Apple platforms that only appeared there, or were only exclusive there because Apple paid the developers

they bought Next not merged, at over market price, however you are right it had alot to do with jobs, but it never would have happened had project copland or pink worked....

the only one i know of that is current is the iphone for MGS apple is rummored to have pushed some money that way to get the game. back durring the gaiming push in the late 90s early 00 apple helped fund a few games mac soft ported and paid bungie to help with this little game called halo that was going to go onto the mac, but we all know how that went... and apple got its money back

Microsoft buys games, Sony buys developers. Same end result really, except MS is getting the stuff from the big devs that Sony couldn't afford to buy straight-out.

Although saying they have THE BEST first-party titles is sheer rubbish, seeing as how Nintendo sort-of built a complete empire almost solely on first-party offerings.

I mean how did they forget how they were able to defeat the Dreamcast, and how they got to be the former market leader?.

Devs gladly go where the money is flowing like nectar and honey?.and right now the is in the Flowering Fields of Microsoft!

Not in Japan it aint. In fact, without anything to back up that statement, I'd say you are way off with that one...

Oh shit Japan!! The country which accounts for only about less than 15% of total console sales??
