Forums - Microsoft - Halo ODST : retail or download or both?

just a question of halo odst.

everyone knows this is not a full halo game but an expansion pack with a fresh 3 or so hours of play.

what i wanted to know will odst release as a standalone retail game ie. halo 3 with extra dvd with odst on.

or will it be a download title only, or will it be both?

also if it releases with halo 3, will it be on the dvd or will it be like oblivion goty edition in which a 2nd dvd was bundled that you install?

i feel ODST will be microsofts highest selling title in 2009 or at least as much as modern warefare 2.

It's a standalone retail disc--Halo 3 is not required to play. It has all multiplayer maps that have ever been released for Halo 3, plus three new ones. It also has a short single-player campaighn. It's roughly half the price of the original game.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

so its basically odst campain with all the halo 3 multiplayer online?

sounds a reasonable purchase if it comes in at a budget price then it will be even better, i have a feeling they will release halo odst at £29.99 and halo odst with halo 3 double pack special edition for £39.99

Basically, yeah. I woudn't be surprised if they came out with a bundled version for $60-$70.

You got a source for this, because last I remember hearing they were looking at a range of 6-10 hours.

Whoa, the story is going to be significantly shorter than Halo 3?

This is the first time I've ever considered not buying the game...

"As far as the length of the expansion, the Halo 3: ODST design director told Game Informer, "When we were thinking about the Chief or the Arbiter stories that we could tell, there was just no story that fit into a three to five-hour expansion pack, which is what we're building here." This set off something of a fervor on the 'net and Bungie soon clarified those statements by saying:

Honestly it's impossible to really quantify this. Even with Halo 3 an individual's play time can vary dramatically based on difficulty level, modifiers like skulls, and whether or not it's played individually, cooperatively, or within the multiplayer portions of the game, which can amount to near infinite play time. While it's true that we view Halo 3: Recon as an extension to the Halo 3 game experience, it's too early to settle on a specific number of hours of gameplay.

First of all, while Halo 3: Recon did originate with the goal of building a 3 to 5 hour campaign experience, I can safely say that as is always the case with Bungie, the team is continuing to put more and more into it and the final product will end up being some order of magnitude more than the initial design. Game Informer also touches on the new structure to the campaign experience and how there are basically two separate components to the campaign. The initial play time targets were focused on one of those components. And lastly, there are still plenty of things we're not talking about with Recon that will further enhance and add to the experience, play time, and replayability of the final package."

i know it will be a disk. And i am pumped for this game. Because if i get it I CAN HAZ RECONZ!!!!!

Long Live SHIO!

ODST will also have all Halo 3 MP maps. That's worth something.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
