damn, so if i were in the US, it would still be illegal for me to drink?

In Belgium:

Drinking age: 16 for beers, 18 for the strong things
Purchase age (and this is the funny thing): You can buy it at any age (normal beers), 18 for the strong things.

Australia

16 at home, but you cannot drink anywhere else or buy the drinks

18 for everything else.

I don't think it needs to be changed.

What does that mean? Momma can buy her 16 year old son alcohol as long as he drinks it at home?

Correct

Germany:

16 for beer and wine

18 for liquors

no difference between shops or bars

I follow tombi123 here. Especially about the save environment. Just good as it is here.

About the drunk driving argument. As you can make your regular driver's licence here not before 18, you learn what alcohol can do to you and therefore to drink more responsible before getting it. I think that's good as well.

I'm sorry. 18 year olds are already dumb as a sack of bricks. I don't think we need 16 year olds being able to drink too.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

teenagers will drink whether its legal or not. Lowering the age just means they will drink in a safe environment.

There are dumb people at all ages.

19

That seems to be a good age, maybe lower it to 18.
