Forums - Website Topics - Since a lot of salenumbers here are incomplete.....

I can't be the only one who thinks that reviews of age old games are a waste of time. This site is for sales data and not named VG old games reviews. I loved Shadow of the collosus for example, but I know about that game already and the internet is filled with info and reviews on it. Sales data however seems to be poorly documented.

I can't be the only one here who expects a sales data site to focus on it's core right? Especially when the core is still filled with huge holes..

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

the people who write reviews are not statisticians so it isn't a waste of resources. If you see brett or the source writing old reviews then you can complain.

you people are so whiny

So look for statiscians instead of wasting time on reviewers. The foundation needs work to provide a solid base for further developments like age old reviews.com. Do sites like gamerankings even bother to add them anyway or are these reviews in complete vain? New games do come out though, perhaps shifting focus on them instead of GT5 Proloque is worth more.

We can have sales data and user reviews at the same time and neither will slow the other one down, so there's nothing to worry about. The sales data is still the heart of the site, but the reviews are great for the community and they help the site grow, which is good. We like to grow here.

And for future reference, please don't use a thread title that has half the idea and then ends in a .......

Also, welcome to the site!

I too would love to see better sale numbers for games. there are alot of games that don't even have all the region sales.

Am I dissapointed about it though? No

I can accept that it is VERY hard to keep track of software sales. You would need a lot of people in major countries to get data for you by walking around stores and even looking at history of that country the type of weekly game sale averages it has and then try to come up with a guestimate.

Even though the site concentrates on numbers, it is good to have reviews, which are done by people that have nothing to do with the numbers.

as rubangB said, they don't interfere with each other. The old reviews are needed to bring in new review copies. Either that or we have to buy all the games. Also, to get on metacritic you have to review some old games too. Nothing on this website is being done without a fairly good reason, and none of it draws away resources from the number crunching.

this whole old reviews topic gets brought up every single week too.

The reviewers are volunteers and aren't wasting our resources at all.  They're helping out because they want to, and not slowing down any other part of the web site.

Also, older reviews are always worthwhile, because people still buy older games all the time.  You may have noticed year-old games like Wii Sports and Mario Kart Wii at the top of the sales charts.  Some games sell forever, and some games disappear right away even though we all love them.  Some people may have been on the fence for a long time, and a review might help them to inform themselves on whether they should rent it or buy it.

The sales data is a work in progress, and so are the reviews.  And neither are slowing each other down at all.  So chill out.

Nah, different people are assigned to different jobs.

What I find strange is that you guys are reviewing stuff like "DiRT" when you still haven't reviewed CoD4...
