First off. Sony is teaching their baby to walk right now. Wait till they give it a stick or something here in a year or two. Not gonna compare it to other consoles. But Sony released a very sound, and immature machine. (the hardware is brand new, and nothing supports it yet, so it needs alot of work to work properly) Sony released it with immature software, and firmware. Sony is working rapidly to change that. And I would say they are doing a very good job.

That could be said about any new system. Everything is new so it takes time to work on. Happened before, gonna happen again.

Again this is assuming the PS3's are doing nothing but acting as a render farm. No game running just rendering a static scene and it would still take 15 of them.

You are using this 68 minute Max render time without any understanding of the context of that number. Max's default scanline renderer is very slow. It isn't optimized to run on any specific hardware and has to be compatible with every possible shader structure that an artist throws at it. There are plug-in renderers for Max that can massively reduce render time if you are willing to give up image quality options and purchase specific CPU hardware, which is exactly what Barry's team are doing with the PS3.

In addition to not understanding the article it would be a good idea to understand the terms you are using. Raycasting isn't something to be boasting about. Wolf3D released back in '92 on the PC was a raycasting engine. Raycasting and Raytracing are not synonymous. What a hell of a luck I´m not alone Honestly washimul not a single PS3 will sell because of raytracing. Does the PSP sell better than the DS because of it´s better graphics? IF the PS3 starts to sell good then it is because of games like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid - not because of raytracing.
