Not gonna compare it to other consoles. But Sony released a very sound, and immature machine. (the hardware is brand new, and nothing supports it yet, so it needs alot of work to work properly)
Sony released it with immature software, and firmware. Sony is working rapidly to change that. And I would say they are doing a very good job.
That could be said about any new system. Everything is new so it takes time to work on. Happened before, gonna happen again.
