Guy is cool and all but noone destroys the Sword Saint.
Pixel Art can be fun.

Yeah, that's a crazy position.
Karel's strengths vs Guy: STR, DEF, and RES.
Guy's strengths vs Karel: HP, SKL, SPD, and LCK.
HP is funny. Karel has like 40 HP when Guy has around 53. Guy owns so much.

I must agree with you again. I find the most important stats for the swordsmen being SKL, SPD and LCK with HP being an added bonus. Guy does own in comparison.
Although, like most FE games, you can often choose your favorite character and still beat the game.
I've olny played the firts FE on the GBA, i was ok, a hard one, but not impossible.

I really want to play up STR but since I use Killing Edges as much as possible, it's more a matter of getting the critical than it is the base damage being a point or two higher. Usually your attacks fall into 2 categories: Death and poke. Enemies with low defense die, enemies with high defense get tickled.
As for the last part, in older Fire Emblems this is less true than newer ones. I think the addition of BEXP to PoR and RD was excellent and gives you a change to let those under-leveled units shine. Adding a 3rd tier in RD also allowed pre-promotes (2) to be useful instead of handicapped.

You sure about that?
Karel starts as a level 8 SM.
Average stats (at that time).
31hp
16str
23skill
20 speed
15 luck
13 def
12 res
Guy's average stats (as Lv 8 SM)
44.75hp
15.8str
23.5skill
28.5 speed
16.25 luck
10.75 def
13.25 res
At that time, Guy wins in
Hp (by 13.75)
Speed (by 8.5)
Luck (by 1.25)
Res (by 1.25)
Karel wins
Def by 1.25
They tie
Str (+.2 Karel)
Skill (+.5 Guy)
Then Guy has better growth rates.
5% more HP
Even on Str
Even on skill
+20% speed
+ 15% luck
+5% def
+10% res
So that's on average
0.6 more health
2.4 more speed
1.8 more luck
0.6 more def
1.2 more res

lolz. I notice you specifically avoided comparing them both at 20/20 so I'll do it.
| Guy | Karel | |
| HP | 53 | 39.4 |
| STR | 18.8 | 19.6 |
| SKL | 29 | 29 |
| SPD | 30 | 26 |
| LCK | 21.2 | 18.6 |
| DEF | 12.4 | 14.2 |
| RES | 10 | 13.8 |
Guy wins: HP, SPD, LCK
Tie: SKL
Karel wins: STR, DEF, RES
+13-14 average HP means that whatever advantage Karel has in DEF/RES is totally overshadowed by Guy's ability to take 1 extra hit.
All that leaves Karel with is an average of 1 point more STR. Meanwhile Guy is humming along with 2 points more LCK and 4 points more SPD. Let's also note that Guy is maxing speed (30) at 20/16 while Karel has a meager 24 SPD at 20/16.
I'm sorry but Karel is utterly obliterated by Guy.
I think both of you are saying that Guy is better than Karel.
How do you get that res for Guy?
Intial stats: 3
Growth rate: 25%
37 levels
= 9.25 in growth.
+ 1 when promoting.
Equals 13.25 res
Where's your 10 from?
Essentially, I'm saying that it's withing +/- 1, it's a tie. You're calling it a victory, and we disagree on the res.
That's the entire difference.
If you check the stats, mine are actually more pro Guy than yours.
