Honestly, FF13 should be able to reach that, even if it only gets 8.8-9/10 (which is AWFUL by Final Fantasy Main Series standards).
Given the mediocrity of the average JRPG this gen, I'd be happy with an average of 85% (which is low for FF series). |
What? You need to go back and check those review scores. A 9/10 isn't awful at all. FF8 average at 8.9.

Isn't FF8 considered awful by FF standards?
I mean the best part of it was the side card game.
Why SE doesn't release that on PSN, Live and Ware i'll never know.

FF7 fanboys hated 8, so it caught a lot of flack initially, but it seems to be the most popular FF aside from FF7 and FF10 (I'm talking about the pure # of fans, not the quality of the game, so FF6 fanboys stay away). Time has passed and the general consensus seems to be that it's a good game.

Fair enough. I disliked 7 more personally but i disliked them both.
That card game though... that was fun.
It's like Suikoden 4. I always mean to play further in the plot but then i get stuck playing the gambling games on the ship.

FF8 is actually my favorite behind FF10. FF8 was also the first FF I played, though, so it has sentimental value attached to it, in my case. In retrospect, I have no idea why I liked it so much, considering that I hated every single character except Seifer. Squall was hot, though, so perhaps that's what made his constant brooding [somewhat] tolerable. Maybe it was the Liberi Fatali-effect.
I didn't play 7 until after I had already played 8-10. Pretty hard to consider the game revolutionary when you're playing it in 2003. Didn't help that I hated every character in that game, either. But the story was very good imo, so I still liked it. Just not my favorite.
As for FF13, I feel like it'll sell FAST, but I'm not sure it'll surpass VII/VIII/X. Depends on word of mouth about the game.
