edit: It's a DSL

It seems that my DS's battery screwed up. During FF IV it only holds its charge for 2-2 and a half hours, and then the power indicator turns red. That's after a full 3 hours charge. I'm looking to replace its battery but am unsure which I should buy... 1200 mAh, 1600, 1800, 2k...? what's the difference and what does the DS lite use?

Also, is there any way to fix my current battery?

Thanks!

A few details first: what model is it (Phat or Lite?) and what troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

No, you can't fix your DS battery.

As for a replacement, just take out your old battery and look at the mAh and match it. The more mAh the battery has, the longer the battery will last. However, typically when you up mAh the battery size gets bigger (not always) so make sure you have a battery that fits your DS.

I wouldn't buy a used battery because you never know how much life it has left.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Lite. And.. I didn't do anything yet. Didn't open the cover, etc etc etc.

I would open it but all my screwdrivers are too big ^_^

Actually, if you're going to get a new battery, you should just hit up Nintendo's website. They'll ask for the model and send you the appropriate battery. I wouldn't risk getting it from anyone else, personally, and it's only $15 or so.

Just to make sure you actually need a new battery, have you recently changed anything you do with your DS? Turned up the volume/brightness, for example, or used Wi-Fi a lot? While I seriously doubt these would explain sub-five hour charges, each of those DO drain the battery quicker than it would otherwise.

You can purchase a replacement battery directly from Nintendo at Nintendo.com

I wish they would add the online store for Nintendo.com to the Wii's shop channel.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Nope, no brightness diffs or wi-fi or all that. But I did read on the web that turning on a fully drained DS screws up its battery. Something that has to do with constant voltage, and yeah, I did that, and that may be the reason.

Does ninty store service worldwide customers or only USA/Canada? I live in Israel.

@Xen: Nintendo of Europe is the distributor for Israel, so maybe you should contact them.

On a quick web search, i found a company called Ronlight. It had a pic of Wii and DS (though, the pic on DS screen was from Strikers). Maybe you could try to find out do they have batteries for your DS.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

People on ebay seem to sell 1600mAh official ninty DSL batteries. I guess I'll go with 1600mAh...

And btw, my DSL is American... they said in the manual to use the NA charger only, does the EU battery arrive with a charger? did anyone ever get this replacement?
