@Aaronsoldier: Forgot to reply you in my previous post.
Sony does advertise PS2 to an extent, but the problem is, that the console is already so late in its life, that the advertising doesn't pay off anymore. If ads would pay off, the pricecut wouldn't be needed. It's better for them to focus on PS3.
And, isn't the Singstar bundle the only option available, if not counting used ones from Gamestop? Atleast i haven't seen any other PS2 in stores in ages anymore.

This is a failed strategy. If Sony wanted to do this they should have done it in the beginning.
First impressions are everything.
PS2 doesnt threaten Wii. PS2 will keep chugging along with its current sales trend.

Here in the UK games like Singstar are much bigger, probably because they are made by London Studio. I dont know about bundles because I havent really looked at the PS2.
I agree that Sony needs to focus on PS3, but if they managed to revive the PS2 that would be something.
Sony's advertising here in the UK is abysmal. For all three products. No wonder the 360 is beating the crap out of the PS3. I saw 2 Killzone 2 adverts and 1 LBP advert. Theres absolutely nothing at all for casual or hardcore gamers to see about any of the PlayStation products.
Really, the PS2 could eat away at the Wii's sales, but Sony needs to get more casual games and more adverts out, because the move they've just made will be a waste of time
@bdbdbd: Gran Turismo isn't leveraged by Sony for the PS2 anymore but I guess DDR isn't either.. I had assumed however that DDR was more popular on PS2 than it has been on Wii although I didn't check sales figures to back up my assumption.
Buzz, Singstar and Eyetoy continue to receive new iterations so they are definately there with the Wii Series of games and lets not forget that Wii Sports Resort hits this year which will most likely be the biggest selling game to be released in 2009..
So the Wii will have the list of huge sellers this year including:
1. Wii Sports
2. Wii Play
3. Wii Sports Resort
4. Wii Fit
5. Mario Kart Wii
And whatever other software that has mass market appeal from them.
So in conclusion of this thread: Sony will not be taking away any market share from any consoles, just increasing the chance for the PS2 to be an impulse buy.
@Aaronsoldier: Singstar has been pretty much the biggest IP here for a long time. There's been 1-3 iterations of Singstar in the PS2 top ten on the finnish bi-weekly chart for years now.
There's only a certain level of sales you are able to get with advertising as well as with certain pricepoint since only a certain amount of people are willing to pay a certain amount of money for the product.
There's also a sweet spot for marketing that leads into sales, as well as a point where marketing doesn't pay off anymore.
PS2 was heavily marketed during its peak years, why didn't people get the console back then. The problem isn't the price or the lack of marketing, but the product not being wanted anymore, along with market saturation. What Sony is trying to do, is get as much extra life for the PS2 as possible. Basically the console already is living in "overtime".
@Puffy: DDR Wii sales surprised me too. No wonder it's easy to find from stores.
I mentioned GT, because it's a driving game, which have mass appeal, found as Platinum title from all stores and is one of the well known Sony franchises. It's pretty much as justified as GTA on the list (even more actually, since GT can be found only on Sony platform).

Wow, just wow.
Wii has arguably the worst line up of any next gen console. Okay, this may simply a matter of opinion, but look at gamerankings and metacritic, I'm sure that they'll both agree with me. And you're actually claiming that it's better than the most successful console ever ?
Pretty ironic how two out of the three best looking Wii games are ps2/gamecube ports. (Okami and RE 4).

Did you by any chance own a PS2?....I don't understand how someone could say that. How can you think that all the PS2 games are worst then the so few good Wii games?
Do you work with Nintendo?

What are you smokin' dude? More powerful (a maybe) but better library you are dead wrong there. The ps2 has the "best" library of rpgs and action games the world has ever seen(unless last gen your only console was the gamecube, and that could be why you are so blinded)
Ps2 = 3,400 games in total library
wii = 115 games in total library (don't quote me but that is how many are listed at gamestop/ign so far)
