80% of ~ 21 million PS3 owners = ~ 17 million PS2 owners.

So 17 million PS2 owners (out of a total of ~ 125 million) have upgraded to a PS3.

Does my calculation make sense? If so:

a) is that a respectable number of upgrades fought for by Sony?

b) is ~ 4 million newcomers a respectable number for Sony to have got onboard?

I never owned a PS2 but I got a PS3....  But I know people who still or used to own a PS2 now have Xbox 360's.  Core gamers will always get what they think is best at the time.

I never understood this Loyally thing people have with companys.  A m8 of mine swears blind by Sony and buys everything Sony.  Even tho he is a gamer, he dispises the xbox 360 and won't even play on one.  But to me thats taking it to far.

Its the same with PCs upgrades.. Because my last 2 graphic cards were both Nvidia, he says im a fan of nvidia.  This is not true because before that last 2 cards were both ATi.  I get whats best on the market for the price at the time and at the moment Nvidia are better in GPU than Ati.  Same with intel and AMD.

I think people that had the original Xbox, and people that want the most powerful on the market are the ones new to the playstation brand this gen

I think those who wanted a BluRay player and also those who are just now getting into gaming.

ps2 was my first sony console. =).

still gets love and i am not done yet with the console!
