Huh, I just re-read Daemon's review, I don't see where he bashes the genre itself. He simply states that the game is doing nothing new, which could be forgivable if it was doing what it does well, but it doesn't.

Well besides him basically dissing the genre as a whole in the initial paragraph, he complained about new equipment being available when you reach a new town. He seems to forget about the synthesis system which is also away to acquire new gear.  More importantly, new gear becoming available at new towns describes the vast majority of JRPGs.

Hehe, for me Chrono Trigger was one of those games that didn't appeal immediately, so I gave it a chance and played it a few hours, but it never got fun... (for me, in case anyone objects to my opinion).

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

your rant fails because you failed to mention that Emil is the worst video game character ever.

Emil has to be the worst lead character in RPG history. That's including Cloud Strife, and you all know how I despise Cloud.

You forgot someone

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

come on, the whole game is Emil's character, i like how it is, but still Emil is not good as the main character, Genis for example is much better : P

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Ugh, that's something I hate about RPG's, jRPG's especially. I don't see why he's not allowed to complain about that, it's certainly something they could improve upon. It happens in tRPG's too, and it's always annoying.

I didn't forget anyone. I'll say it again. Emil is the WORST lead character in JRPG history. He is the most whiny, spineless, more over apolgizing piece of trash in JRPG history. Thankfully Tenebrae was awesome.

had popped in tales of symphonia yesterday (the first, not dawn) and wow I couldn't get my self to play it. I was so used to Star Ocean 4, and Dawn of the New Worlds combat style.

You know how you can run around an enemy or you know freely and not just towards targeted enemy and just jump over them or attack head on. Or was it me just not remembering controls at all. Cause damnit I want to be able to run however I want in the battle and blindside or what not the enemy. I loved tales of symphonias controls when first played, but wow once you move to something better its hard to go back.

It's a very good game, not as good as Tales of Symphonia but is very good in it's own.

Reading things like this makes me wonder if I should go back and actually play Symphonia. I am playing Vesperia now and love it, but you guys make these Symphonia games sound more like a chore than a game. -_-

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

No, they make DotNW sound like a chore, not the first one. We're pretty unanimous in our praise for GC's Symphonia. But so far, I think DotNW is great.
