Forums - Gaming - Wii VS. PS2 who will win?

ps2 will win because it still selling not that much but it still selling

and the wii will get old to some people mostly in japn

since the ps3 is topping everyone in japan

PS2 should win.
PS2 saw good software offering through its whole lifetime whereas Wii started a lot stronger than PS2 software wise but there isn't the software being released every month to keep it up like it is now...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

The PS2 hasn't sold 140 million, and it probably never will.

The Wii will have beaten it in 2012.

If Japan is any indication, I think not(slowing demand for wii).  Firstly if memory serves me corretly, is the ps2 "still" selling or does my local gamestop, bestbuy, and walmart have some sort of monoply?  As long as there are sales of ps2 and sony does not stop making them it will be "imposssible" for the wii to catch the ps2 this gen or any.  Lets not get delusional about this, I love the wii like the rest of you guys but come on.

This isn't an infinately halving race.... as long as the Wii is outselling the PS2 weekly, it is catching up.

Lets say Wii sells 25 million in 2009.... puts it at 75 million by the end of the year. The PS2 sells 4 million and ends the year at about 130 million.

2010 sees 30 million Wii sales, ending the year at 105 million. The PS2 sells a further 2 million, ending at 132 million

2011 sees 25 million Wiis, ending at 130 million.... 1 million more PS2s makes 133 million.

----

The PS2 is still selling all through 2011 in this situation, but the Wii is only 3 million behind it going into 2012.

to clarify from my earlier post. (I was going to edit but there are too many intervening posts)

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=All&cons2=PS2&reg2=All&cons3=----&reg3=------&weeks=400

The Wii is currently tracking about 20,000,000 ahead of the PS2, which bodes very well for its future prospects. However, I'm not at all convinced it will still be selling 60-80k/week in November 2015 (which is equivalent to what the PS2 has done) given the fact that it is 1) less powerful compared to the competition than the PS2 was, meaning it will "age" faster. 2) it won't outsell PS3/360 combined sales by 3-4 times. and 3) it has far, FAR fewer AAA games than the PS2 did at a comparable time in the lifecycle and we aren't seeing any real signs that that is changing despite the fact that the Wii has been universally recognized as the generation leader for nearly two years.

Now, the fact that it is tracking so far ahead may be enough to offset this, but it's pretty much up in the air at this point.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

It really depends on how long the Wii's life will be. I can see a $99.99 Wii selling quite nicely into 2015 myself.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Unfortunately, probably the Wii.

I say "unfortunately" because the PS2 remains my favourite console of all time, and it deserves that top spot. It has a better game library than any other system. Better than Wii, 360, PS3, Xbox, GC, PSOne, even N64.

The Wii is tracking quite far above the PS2, but it depends on longevity. If the Wii lasts even 8 years with sales these levels, it'll undoubtedly win. This is the most likely scenario. If, however, Wii sales drop off (possibly because of a sequel, maybe lack of interest), it will not overtake the PS2 which is, of course, a moving target and should have about 135 million SOLD by 2012.

PS2 is still selling. PS2 is not a fad

You guys really need to look at TWRoO's post and abandon this notion of PS2 being a "moving target". The amount of PS2s selling these days is quite negligible and it's not padding its numbers as significantly as some of you seem to think it is.
