Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which was better: Nintendo 64 or Playstation?

N64 has some of my favorite games of all time(ocarina of time at the top), so N64 for me, hands down. Although I never owned a PS1

PS1 both in technology and Games.

Tie.

That is a tough decision.  PS1 had a lot more games, but there are a few games on the N64 that really shine such as Mario 64, Goldeneye, Harvest Moon 64, Star Fox 64, Ocarina of Time, Manjora's Mask.

If I could only have one, I would have to have the N64.  Of course, I own both.

PlayStation, i ended up buying way more games for the PS1 than the N64. Although Buck Bumble was an awesome game for the N64, along with Jet Force Gemini

Nintendo 64 was better in graphics, loading times, and controller (it was the original analog stick + rumble), while PS1 had more games and better media (CD that is cheaper for developers and more storage).

N64

PS1 is why I started disliking Sony in the first place since I bought a first generation PS1 which of course overheated right after the warranty ran out. I will never buy a single Sony product again except maybe a movie which unfortunately they have some decent ones.

I shall break this down:

Game Selection: I don't think the N64's 3rd party was as bad as people made it out to be. Even without most Rareware games.I still have fun with the N64. PSX has obviously a bigger selection, but more of it's games are crappy. Many PSX games that I know of don't even use analog support.

3D Power: N64 wins almost flawlessly in this department. The blurryness & it's limited texture cache I can tolerate. PSX has somewhat better textures, but in my opnion, what good is that when most of it's games look really pixellated & jaggy?

2D power: The PSX is pretty weak when it comes to 2D. It's low amount of RAM really cripples it. The N64 has twice the RAM of the PSX & that's just without the expansion pak. Unfortunately, there arn't many games on the N64 which take advantage of N64's 2D power so it's kinda a draw for now.

Sound: PSX obviously.

Ease of Controller use: It's a draw. A PSX controller with 2 analog sticks+Rumble+PSX game with analog support=awesome. The N64 controller is also easy to use once you get used to the controller.

Memory paks: It's a draw

In conclusion, I prefer the N64. There's a few PSX games that I'm intrested in however, like Mega Man Legends 2, Jumping Flash!, Street Fighter Alpha 3, & maybe GTA 1 & 2. For the most part, N64 wins however.

Besides, I'm not intrested in many PSX games, and please don't even try to show me a list of good PSX games if most of them are gonna be RPG's.
