Forums - Nintendo - How important is music (in games) to you?

Music is very, very, very important to me in games. But for some reason, most people seem to just ignore it.

If you look at reviews. Most sites just have Presentation, Graphics, Gameplay, Lasting appeal. Just a very few have a sound score. Sound is normally just heaped into a group with something else.

Game trailers (not the site, the actual trailers) generally don't have any music in them.

Usermade videos normally have some crappy non-game music tacked on.

There's tons of threads about best graphics, best controls, best physics and such, but rarely ever a thread about best music.

To me, it seems like nobody gives a damn. Developers don't try to promote it, reviewers don't really mention it, and the consumers don't seem to care.

So, to the question. Do you care about music in games?

I care. I care a lot. The music is probably my favorite part of the Spirit Tracks trailer, for instance.

Music is very important to me. If a game is great but the soundtrack is lacking, I can live with it, but an awesome soundtrack can really lift a game to new heights.

Video game music is a really big part of my life, honestly. Some of my best times come from me listening to orchestrated tunes of, for example, Castlevania music.

Very very very important!

Yes and no. Good music will elevate a game higher, but unless the music is really bad, a mediocre score isn't something that puts game down for me.

But games like MGS4, LBP and others would never have been the same without their scores.

These exist? Where can I get them?

Oh, you can bet they exist. I'll give you a PM.

Personally, music is more important than how the game looks. That's just the looks, not the physics, Ai and all that.

Is it a coincidence that my 2 favourite games are also the 2 with the best music?

I tested something a few days ago. I played Super Mario Galaxy without sound. It was still good, but not even close to as good as it normally is.

Then, I played it in Black & White, but with music. That was tons more enjoyable. (Lacking the colours was definitely a letdown though).

IGN take voice acting, sound effect and music in consideration in their review.

It's important but i don't think i have ever played a game with music so bad that i had to turn the volume off.
