I don't think it matters if it's possible or feasible to do it. You still haven't explained why Nintendo would bother doing this. It just doesn't make good business sense to do so, and without a simple reason that pertains to dollar signs, why would Nintendo do such a thing? It's nice to think about, kinda like how people love conjuring up conspiracy theories that don't have sound reasonings and are always more convoluted and ridiculous than real life tends to be, but that doesn't make it a sound prediction.

Because of the low sales in Japan previously mentioned as well as the fact that several sources have already announced that Nintendo has been looking at ways to make the Wii HD and Nintendo hasn't denied these reports.  Miyamoto even said they were looking into ways to do it.

"Some analysts have already expressed their expectations about high-definition version of Wii game console. However, they expected it to arrive in 2009 or 2010 did not anticipated them to be truly revolutionary."

Nintendo always does things like this.  They make a few tweaks to their consoles so that they phase out the old one and give it price cuts while letting the new version justify keeping or adding a little bit to the old price.

Another example of them phasing out a highly popular console after it had only been on the market a short time = GBC to GBA.

*shakes head*

Analysts....for them everything that Nintendo does is bad. They sell a lot? is bad, They don't sell a lot? is bad. They predicted that the wii would be at 3d place, that Nintendo would become a 3d party company, that the DSi competes with the iphone.....they always fail because, like you, doesn't think what they say.

And the wired.com page doesn't have any references about it.

And Miyamoto was talking about the succesor of the wii. Why don't you get that?

Many already explained why is not that possible. If you don't want to listen to them, well sorry about it. But reality is another stuff.

@BTFeather: The GBC was phased out for it being only an upgrade to Gameboy.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I wouldn't be too surprised, of course depending on the way they would have designed the console.

If you really believe it, keep it in your sig until a month after E3.

This.

Girls love the boys who have ridiculous predictions in their signature!

That's why I'm putting this in mine. I'm gonna be popular!

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Could they come up with an attachment that you plug the Wii's video output signal cord into and then it converts it into an hd signal?

You mean like an upscaler.

Most HDTVs already have upscaling in them.... all an upscaler does is to help stop compatibility problems between SD and HD signals.... so it could help some HDTVs to stop it looking worse than it does on an SDTV.

At the moment, The Wii does look better [than SD] on most HDTVs if you buy the correct cables and set it up properly.... but there are some TVs that have issues or are difficult to set up correctly, and so sometimes things like jaggies can be abnormally more noticable.

Generally though that can be fixed by messing around with the TV settings, or if you haven't bought them, to use the component cables.

Thanks TWRo0, saves me the effort of saying just that.

If it is merely an upscaler, then it will make very little graphical difference, certainly not enough to justify the short term cost and low supply issues

You seem to have missed the point: the Wii has no need for any sort of "upgrade", it's selling quite well as it is. And any upgrade it will receive, as per Blue Ocean Strategy, will be geared towards getting more non-gamers into the mix, not towards claiming a bigger share of the incumbent market.

They may want the incumbent market back, having pissed it off.

The two NOT being mutually exclusive.  WITH proper focus and allocation.

That's an interesting theory, but it's not backed at all by their actions, nor by Blue Ocean Strategy. It seems to me that what you're expressing is something more of a personal desire, not an observation based on knowledge of the business strategy being employed by Nintendo or their actions over the last 5 years.

Nintendo themselves have told us that developing a console is a process that never stops, once one is out, you start developing the next one.

Exactly, I'm sure Sony and MS do the same thing. In a race this competitive you can't afford not to get started ASAP.
