Well now see there we agree...
Great discussion as always Onyx, I'm a sucker for good conversation :) |
Me too.
Just to finish up, I think multiplatform games this gen have been overall better than exclusives for one simple reason. I feel a lot of the best studios just happen to reside in the roster of third party publishers. Sure in a perfect world, all the best studios would be housed inside Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo and push single system specs and break the mold with innovative products, but in our world, a multiplatform Burnout Paradise can be better than an exclusive racer like Motorstorm Pacific Rift simply because of the pedigree of the developers themselves.
There's also the problem that to tap each system's strengths, whether it's the inards of the 360 and PS3 or the Blu Ray disc space takes some major investment, and most games won't see the return from it because both consoles came out with this tech too early to properly implement it the way it could be implemented years later. So even if a developer wanted to let's say create a PS3 exclusive just to max out a Blu Ray disc, could they really afford to? Is their idea ambitious and space intensive enough to warrant doing so without dragging the game along for too long? Not every game can sell like MGS4, and in fact almost all games cannot.
