Forums - Sales - 2D Boy reveals all kinds of data about World of Goo costs and sales

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22866

Lots of interesting stuff in here. Everything except actual sales numbers. Here are some highlights:

Total development cost over two years - $96,000

World of Goo revenue sources:

WiiWare - 55-60%

2DBoy.com - 25%

Steam - Unspecified, but growing in 2009 (12-18%?)

Retail - 2-3%

Sales on 2DBoy.com are 65% PC, 25% Mac, and 10% Linux.

Best offer from a publisher was $700,000 plus 15% royalties, which 2D Boy decided they could beat by going it alone.

No change in piracy rate between their game and a game with DRM. "Don't bother with DRM... it's a waste of time. Anybody who wants the game is going to find it on a BitTorrent site. We just don't see the point in trying to fight that."

A Steam 25% off sale quadrupled revenues.

Cool. WiiWare turned out good for this guys!

Neat... shame there are no hard sales figures.

In terms of sales though it must be about 40-45% Wiiware (as it costs more on Wiiware) compared to 30-35% 2Dboy.com.... and probably 20-25% for Steam (already cheaper, + price-cut means even more sales compared to revenue.

Then a small amount at retail (where was it sold at retail anyway?)

Hopefully they will release some more bad ass WiiWare games!

No hard sales figures? I'd have liked to get an estimate of how much cash they made off of the WiiWare version. Did they at least beat their highest offer of $700,000?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

According to Carmel, their next game is called The Sophomore Effect: An Intentionally Mediocre Game.

@ TWRoO )

here in germany I saw the game available at retail

Bought the game through Steam on sale.

Steam now got me interested in indie games with periodical weekend sale offers. Damn Valve!

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
