I'd say they don't suck to the max. Which is an extreme form of non-suckage.

At the end of the day, though the OP has some minor flaws, it is largely correct. Zenfolder simply pointed out that the PS3 has not been the resounding success by any measure that a very substantial number of PS3 fanboys and overexcited fans on VGChartz believe it to be. He specifically went out of his way to stress that it had NOT been a failure. And sure enough, people started belittling his argument with petty spin and personally targeted flaming. There was nothing unreasonable about the OP. |
Actually, it has some major flaws. The PS3 has not been a resounding success, and some people are also much more vocal about small successes than I personally consider within reason, but this is from a business perspective, yet much of his post is with the view of a gamer/consumer.
The lack of 3rd party exclusives and JRPGs and removal of PS2 BC is critisized heavily, yet the high price point is also critisized, and everyone here knows that Sony do not have the the kind of money needed to accomplish all these things. You could say that he complains that Sony is not willing to go bankrupt for the sake of their costumers, which is downright stupid, and especially on a forum dedicated to video game sales.
Furthermore, he forgets that he is dealing with people. If the situation improves for any product, the people rooting for said product will of course be vocal about it, and if you are rooting for the last place contender, than success feels ever sweeter. You don't need to know psychology to get this, just a minute or two of pondering will get you that far, hopefully.

We agree on this, but you fail to realise something.
That is all the OP is saying. Zenfolder is simply pointing out that hardcore PS3 lovers are over-dramatising the console's successes. Given the high proportion of PS3 fanboys on this website, if has resulted in a misappropriated impression of the console's standing.

The OP has some MAJOR flaws. He basically sums up anyone who supports the PS3 as being an extreme fanboy who constantly plays down the competition. And I take offense to that as someone who supports the PS3 and who also thinks Gears of War is one of the top 10 games this generation. And while I think that his post has some valid opinions, it should be directed at PS3 fanboys, not PS3 fans, and it should certainly not be portrayed as a "State of the Union for the PS3." It's pretentious.
As I said, and someone before me said, this is like the State of the Union address being written by someone who is not the President and not an American.
What if I wrote a "State of the Union for the XBox360" thread where I remind you guys that Microsoft lost 6 billion on the original XBox and that they haven't made that up yet. Or where I talk about how Ninja Gaiden 2, Lost Planet, Dead Rising and Bioshock are "lost exclusives." Or how you guys get way too excited about a mediocre RTS on a console that isn't great, it just simply doesn't suck on consoles. You can't tell me that XBox360 fans wouldn't be all over my post in a heartbeat. Especially if I billed it as a State of the Union for the XBox360.

not only do 360 fans do that but they also exaggerate on ps3 being a failure and ps3 fans the same

Oh, I realized that, but I see that we are looking at it differently
I think the PS3 fanboy-ism is excessive at times, but Zen writes as if he neglects human nature completely. I personally can't get mad at anyone for showing joy, but when it turns on the defensive, it gets stupid, and it disgusts me how reasoning can be disspelled without a second thought. But this goes for all sides, but since the PS3 is in last place, it is much more likely to happen with PS3 fanboys on the defensive than the 360 or Wii.
And therefor I disagree with Zen's outline of the situation.

If you feel they do, make an identical thread in the Microsoft forum. If you maintain Zenfolder's calm demenour and logic-deduced conclusions, you will be fine.
