Forums - Nintendo - "The Wii doesn't sell quality games" - Any examples to back this up?

Well CoD in my eyes was not a big franchise until Modern Warfare showed up, it was just another ww2 shooter like medal of honor. I hope that everyone noticed the huge gap in sales between the third and forth installment?

Your missing the point. Call of Duty has an average opening compared to other hyped shooters. Its the legs that sets itself over the top. I only compare Call of Duty games after Modern Warfare, where the series truly shines.

Okami did not sell for the Wii like it didn't sell on the PS2. The fact that it made a handful of dollars because it was a pretty direct port so it had low development costs does not change the fact that it did not sell.
What about Tenchu or the two Tomb Raider games? Those were pretty decent I seem to remember, and known franchises. And hardly niche games.

You ignored the question I asked about Zelda. But ok, Tenchu, I don't know how well it will sell. It's a recent release with 70,000 units so far, and the best selling Tenchu game of all according to vgchartz only sold 320,000 copies. Maybe it will have legs, maybe it won't.

And which Tomb Raider are you talking about, this? http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/laracrofttombraideranniversary

Interesting benchmarks you use for expecting high sales, really.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

50k sales on a platform that has 5000k units is actually not that great sales. It means for every THOUSAND Wii owners ONE picked up Madworld.

Mushroom Men wasn't supposed to sell. Nobody knows the devs, nobody stocked it, no ads, and it's a weird concept. This game wasn't big at all and not a good example.

DC is dead yet is still selling? How does that work?

for the love of God soriku, just admit that Deadly Creatures is a bad flop. It sold 40 K thus far. 40 friggin k.

You know it , i know it and others know it, so why are you making excuses?

I stand corrected on TR:Underworld, as I don't really know it. But the fact that Anniversary came a month after the 360 version hardly makes it a late version.
Bioshock was a year late, after for a long while the title was deemed to be exclusive for the 360 and thus many players had already got it on the PC. The fact that when it came out for the PS3 it was to be found much cheaper for the 360 in the same stores didn't probably help, either.

yes Deadly creatures will go 500k, the problem is , it usually take over a year to get there. That usually cuts huge portion of the profits you guys think these games make.

Ok, fine. You start off on the hypothesis that the brand has created it's legs. I disagree with that. I set out to disprove the idea that the brand is what was highly relevant by suggesting that 'if the brand is the big factor, then shouldn't it have a big start, like the HD versions'. Honestly I don't believe brand has much to do with it. People who like the CoD brand are HD owners, and we all know multi-console owners are a small subset of the market. I can't utterly disprove that brand was an important factor, but since brand hasn't seemed to help many other games, like Tomb Raider as mentioned, I'm not convinced it is.

I'll bet they are back at making mini games...:

Deadly Creatures developer 'back to minigames' if game doesn't sell

It's tough being a developer at Rainbows Studio right now, and not just because your rivals are insinuating things about your game. Jordan Itkowitz, lead designer on the allegedly not-that-original Deadly Creatures, is desperate for his game to sell well. If it flops, as many third-party "core" games have to date, it could mean he goes "back to minigames." Says Itkowitz to MTV's Multiplayer blog: "I hope people vote with their dollars in February so we can make some more."

Well, us too, Jordan. Now, let's all take a moment to dwell on what a bleak, bleak statement this makes about the current state of the Wii software market.
