This is not a cause for celebration. Its a cause for morning.

Look at it the other way, more then 50% of the market still belongs to HD gamers (even more if you include PC sales).  The idea that somehow the only way to sell is to go the hyper casual Wii path has pretty much been debunked by this point.  The Wii has in no way had a break away performance like the far less casual PS1 and PS2 enjoyed.  HD games are here to stay.

In a few months it will be 51%, then the tides will begin to turn.

How?  Month to month PS3+360 sales are consistently higher then the Wii.  This is especially true since demand for the Wii seems to have collapsed in Japan.  It's not out of stock anywhere anymore, which further shows Wii ferver has reached a plateau.

Dude you cant be serious Really??

Wait till Wii Sports Resort and few other big games are released... Oh and the holiday season, just look at the numbers from last year, and yes they will be bigger and i doubt HD consoles can come anywhere close combined...

The Wii did indeed do a lot better during the holiday quarter than they did in the rest of the year (compared to the Ps360 last year).

Entire year: 53.3%

Holiday Quarter: 53.1%

Fantastic proof you presented there. Yes, along with the "just wait for <game title>" you truly made a post that completely disproved the quoted poster.

Here's the most important thing:

Last gen, Sony had 75% and was profitable.

This gen, Sony expected to walk away with the race again, and they contructed a console that needed to win in order to be profitable, and as a result when they failed, they failed hard, and lost most or all of their PS2 profits quickly.

Last gen, Nintendo built a console that was profitable despite a dismal 12% market share.

This gen, they followed the same plan, and now that they are teetering on a 50% share, are making an embarassing amount of money.

It's clear to me which business model is the better one.

Some of that money should be invested in echology and being less contaminating with the envirnment. Nintendo is one of the worst electronic companies in relation to the environment according to GreenPeace, far below others like Apple or Sony. A business model is not only based on making money!

Play my LittleBigPlanet level: Mystic Runner. Thanks!

^It's ecology.

Anyways, "respecting the environment" is of the lowest priority in a business. It's only the icing on the cake if you have made a lot. Until the governments around the world start fining Nintendo severely for their pollution, that is hardly a good way to criticise their business model.

Is the Wii got adjusted down?

The Wii hasn't managed to break 50% yet... its even losing ground ever so slightly. This makes sense, since, as time marches on, the HD consoles are even more appealing -- more HDTVs are in homes, PCs get faster and faster... The Wii looks older and older (as do the HDs, but the Wii is lagging even more)...

The Wii's market disruption was based on blue ocean friendly demographic appeal -- that splash has made its mark. There are no reasons for it to suddenly become more popular, like there are for the HD consoles (i.e. cheaper HD consoles, and more HDTVs). Unless the Wii gets a price drop, and soon, I don't think it will ever hit 50%.

Week-to-week sales of the Wii outside America are closer to 40%.  The dollar is super weak, and will remain so for a while... no price drop.  America is also, next to Japan, probably the most prone to HDTV adoption increases, once the recession is on the downturn -- the new digital TV thing this year will get a LOT of people doing upgrades, even if there is a program is adapt your old analog SD set.

Unless Nintendo blows us all away with new awe-inspiring software at E3, I think that the 50% marketshare number, no matter how close it is today, will not be achieved.  Games like WiiSports Resort are not system sellers -- its a refresh of WiiSports, and isn't any more appealing than the original, if you don't already own a Wii.

The reason why the Wii is losing a little ground lately is simple: The HD consoles sold better because they had some recent big releases (Killzone 2, Halo Wars, Yakuza 3, Resident Evil 5). Hardware sales will level off and the Wii will exceed 50 % in weekly sales again.

I like your positive outlook, Rol. =)

LOL you're talking like if graphics is all that matters in the gaming industry, but the majority of people doesnt care at all. They just wanna have fun. Your analyze is not good.

The Wii has had over 50% market share practically every week this year, just not substantially enough to make a huge amount percentage wise ltd. Remember the closer to 50% the Wii gets, the higher the numbers need to be to even get 0.1%
