Forums - Sony - Do you believe in Sony's 10 year plan?

In order for a 10 year plan to work you need a really succesful console. PS2 is nearly in it's tenth year and not selling anywhere near as current gen and that's the most successful console of all time. If Sony stick to that 10 year crap than they deserve everything they get.

I believe Sony is playing it smart. MS is being aggressive with their approach and for now it is working. Sony has to wait for the right time. Sony has a lot of room to lower the price and sustain it. MS can't go down much lower.

I believe that Sony will lead the way in the end. The PS3 has loads of potential and we will start to see a new standard in gaming and entertainment. Sony's Candle stick has a lot of wick but is slower to burn, whereas MS has a smaller candle wick and will burnout quickly. Wow that's Penis envy for ya :P

So in the end? Yes! 10 yr plus for the Ps3 :D maybe 4 more for the 360.

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

PR wise no. Economic situation at present making them have a 10 to 15 year life span, yes.

Yes, though I think their idea of the ten year plan has changed drastically since launch.

Initially, they probably thought the ps3 would take off like the ps1/2, and thus have an amazingly long life due to its giant install base. Now, however, I think they're hoping this gen lasts a rather long time (and I think it will), allowing them to regain profitability and regroup, so that they have a better position from which to tackle the next gen.

no but I believe in sony

I believe in it. I bet by its 3rd birthday (november 2009) the price will only be $300 and there will be massive Christmas sales.

By its 5th or 6th year it could be as low as $250 or even $200, and hopefully a slim PS3 by then which will create massive sales (the price, not the slim model).

So I believe by its 5th or 6th year if the price is $200 or $250, the PS3 will be outselling the Wii and the 360 every week.

And by its 8th year, like the PS2, the PS3 could even be $99. And who doesn't want a $99 blu ray player/game machine with tons of great games?? You'd be silly not to buy a $99 PS3.

So I say Wii owners, enjoy your great sales, because within a couple years the PS3 will be coming back.

Yes i believe.

I believe in 10 year. Not because of any plan, but because Sony cannot afford to ship a new console for at least 4-5 more years. The financial burden is just too great.

So they are stuck with the PS3 for a very long time. Planned on not.

Prediction made on 11/1/2008:

Q4 2008: 27M xbox LTD, 20M PS3 LTD . 2009 sales: 11M xbox,  9M PS3

We play games, not sales.

Then you're losing =)

The 10 year laughcycle

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8
