Forums - Nintendo - Wii sales mindblowing! Just think about it. Wii vs PS2 vs GC

It doesnt matter how long console is going to be on market. It Matters how long can console keep selling good until fell below 90k. NES was out longer than PS1 but PS1 still outsold it. PS2 sold that good because it never stopped selling like crack till holiday season 2007.PS2 always had good software to give it a boost.

Wii has sold 50 million for 3 years ( 48 million but lets make it simple )
Lets say will will also sell 50 million in next 3 years. It would be 100 million. In 2012 wii is starting to slow down and sells only 25 million in 3 years. It would be 125 million. In next 3 years Nintendo stops making good software for wii and wii sells only 10 million. It would be 135 million wiis sold by end of its life cycle. So there you go.Nintendo suports wii for 12 years and wii sold 135 million and becomes first Nintendo console to sell above 100 million but it doesent outsell PS2.

But this is just my predicting. It can go far worse or far better for wii

but the wii has not gone through 3 COMPLETE years on the market yet, and it won't until september (when it released) and it will likely be past 60 million by then.

Truely impressive. The waggle sticks for other platforms are surely on the way. Only time will tell if they can chop away at the Wii's total dominance.

Edit: Whats truely scary is that Nintendo could easily ramp up even more Wii demand and sales with a price cut.

 That´s true.

INSTEAD, they RAISED the price of wii in UK

They did but it's only the UK. Truthfully, i don't think that demand will lower at all because of this. What strikes me is that the pound has become so weak toward the Yen resulting in the price raise.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

I can totally see the Wii continuing for many years after Nintendo launches a new console at a $100 price point because of it's board appeal and cheap development cost. In fact many smaller publishers will milk it for all it's worth because they already can't afford to publish games for HD consoles so what will they do next gen? They will milk the ultra-casual Wii base that has no interest to pay more than $100 for a new console and / or are just content with the Wii and try to stretch that out as long as possible.

I'd wager Wii will easily outlast the PS3, even if Sony sticks to their 10 year plan.

Yes, but i wanted to make it simple, just like i added 2 million to total wii sales

Ah, these discussions are always so amusing. If only because they spiral off into debates on semantics so fast.

As for the Wii's sales, you should expect no less. In fact, it was quite troubling that overall sales of hardware across available platforms were more or less static during the so-called 16-bit era. The difference in sales between the generation headed by the Atari 2600 and the generation headed by the NES was nothing short of amazing: we went from about 25 million units sold for the market leader and overall about 40 million units sold to 60 million units sold for the market leader and overall about 80 million. We saw a smaller but still meaningful jump between the SNES/Genesis era and the PS1/N64 era, and again between PS1/N64 era and PS2/GC/XB era.

Regarding how long they can keep it up, quite frankly, there's been no competition of note for the Wii in any of the sub-markets they've opened up. Until same-value competition does emerge in those sub-markets, they have a monopoly of sorts. And thanks to the issue of market image, most companies aren't going to go within 100 yards of the market Nintendo has actually harnessed. Eventually we will see some of the obvious values challenged by the incumbents (Sony, Microsoft), but the odds of either of those companies producing a console that is not only family-friendly, but also inviting to current non-gamers, is very slim.

^^Dude, the NES was supported for 20 yrs! That's double 10yrs! PS3's 10 yr plan is a pipe dream. The SNES was supported for I think 14yrs. The exceptions to this Nintendo rule are the two consoles which weren't marketleading, even though they had superior tech..guess what? This gen won't be any different.

Um, N64 was not a better console specs wise then the PS1.

Also no the NES was not supported for 20 years. And no the SNES was not supported for 14.

It's far easier to think you're right than to know you're wrong. We're biologically predisposed to engage in such behavior, futile though it may be. And the less research one has done to confirm what one believes, the more adamantly one tends to defend it, paradoxically enough. It does bring to question the claim that we are, by default and by majority, a logically thinking species...

will Wii eventually outsell PS2?

easily.....
