Another way to look at it:

For every 3 people that picked up RE5 on the PS3 this week, 1 person picked up MadWorld on the Wii. Both launch weeks.

And for every person that owns a PS3 there are 3 that owns a Wii in NA, so that's a week one attach rate 1/9th smaller.

Fortunately attach rates are pretty meaningless for publishers.

Also forgetting Madworld is a new IP, while RE has had plenty of hits on the Playstation systems.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Longer than that. Wii sales are not a short term thing, which these threads often forget.

Well, sales of top Wii games tend to crawl slowly towards the goal line. It's not like the games of its competitors where all local communities set up a shuttle service at launch date to ship consumers to the stores to buy the game...

In Noth America in their first week these games sold the following and ended up Million Sellers (or soon will be):

Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles 76,535
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition 70,880
Sonic and the Secret Rings 50,713
Shawn White Snowboarding: Road Trip 45,840
Call of Duty World at War 44,468
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga 40,831
House of the Dead 2&3 the Return 13,910

Now, I'm not claiming that MadWorld will be a million selling game ... but even core Wii games sell over time and it is foolish to look at a single Wii games sales in one week and in one market and claim that it is not selling.

For those who think that 57k is a failure, that is about 2k more than HAWX for Xbox 360 sold its first week.

While not quite as hyped, that game has received plenty of promotion.

Mike from Morgantown

Trying to offer some perspective.

But HAWX is a failure aswell review wise and sales wise.

It's also a bigger budget game on a coveted "hardcore" console that apparently can sell tons of any and every game depending on the argument.

Though I have to wonder if in Ubi's case, they're going to bail on the Wi version of HAWX becuse of the underperformance of the PS360 versions.

Bigger budget or not it deserves to fail imo.

The game is well on its way to sell ~100.000 first week with European sales included. That's pretty good for a cell shaded, black and white, ultra violent new IP.

People really need to rethink what reasonable sales are for games. MadWorld will easily beat Star Ocean 4 worldwide for example. A game that probably costs loads more to make.

A Wii game, especially something niche like MadWorld, selling over 500k (which it will do) is a big success. The Conduit is a different story, I think it should sell at least a million to be considered a success.

Just for info, just got mine a minute ago, at work (I'm in Europe). Can't wait to get home. It'll be the first Friday night I'll stay at home for months ;)
