Forums - Gaming - IGN: Why DVD's better than Blu-Ray....

I was wondering why all the irrational hatred against a better, back compatible format. Then I read that you talked about "HD-DVD add on thing" and I realized that it's just a facet of console fanboyism. Good luck with that.

Atleast on this site,   that is primarily why you see the completely irrational Blu-Ray hatred. "Well Well Upscaled Dvds look JUST as good!"  "No one can even tell with Blu-Ray!!"   "Digital distribution is going to skyrocket everything!"    It's all about console fanboyism and it makes me laugh.

Blu-Ray will arrive soon folks.  Get ready for it.  Enjoy it.

DVD is in the X360 and is all I need it doubles up as a dvd player as well as being my only console system.

I would never buy a Blu-Ray player because it would mean I would have to buy a PS3. If a PS3 came free with a HDTV well I would sell the free PS3 for a quick buck and buy some more X360 games.

... you do realize that standalone Blu-ray players exist?

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

We'll see if in 2 years from now if that's 'all' you need.  Watch some SD stuff on your nice new HD tv and we'll see how long you go before you want Blu-Ray, HD Cable, or something.

I don't know a single person who owns a Bluray player, apart from a few guys at my college who own a PS3. Also, a lot of people don't even know what Bluray is, especially the older generation. And when you walk into an electronics store and see a Bluray movie for 30 bucks, and the same movie on DVD for 5, the vast majority of mankind will buy the DVD, simple as that.

I don't know your life story but have you every gone into a major electronics retail store and purchased an HD TV?  I did just the other day.   Guess what crazy things they tell you and try to sell you?    Have you ever walked into an electronics retail store (Best Buy let's say) and noticed the ever increasing Blu-Ray lineup?

A lot more people know about Blu-Ray then you're guesstimating.  It's just a matter of when do they want to take the plunge. (Which they will).

@Cheebee

"And when you walk into an electronics store and see a Bluray movie for 30 bucks, and the same movie on DVD for 5, the vast majority of mankind will buy the DVD, simple as that."

That's a harsh difference indeed... but where did you see that exactly?

In Italy prices go like this (example is Iron Man when it came out in fall ):
DVD : €22
2 DVD edition with extras: €28
BluRay edition, same content of the 2 DVD one plus a few smaller extras: €32

Today you find them discounted at 10€,13€,19€ respectively. And I guess this country is actually bad when it comes to movie prices.
Sure, DVD is cheaper. But for everyone going for the extras, the BR edition is only a few bucks more. It seems totally worth to me.

Well.. i guess you'd need to be a citizen of a developed country in order to appreciate technology to its fullest. C'mon people, HD and FULL HD - TV's has been on the market now for years. If you seriously are playing and upscaling games and movies through your X360 and PS3 on a standard def tv, you should be shot on sight, litterally.

I forgot to mention the biggest point in my last post.

Advertising will bring about free gaming, just like free t.v.

the SuperBowl is free to watch as long as you have a t.v., as are most regular season games on free t.v., some on pay t.v. So, why not Madden with free servers.

that synergy is it, that's the key to a free gaming future. OnLive will make hardware irrelevant.

Except OnLive won't be free and it again relies on Internet service that isn't even close to being implemented on a widespread basis.
