You might be right, but I was thinking about how last year when the PS3 was just $50 more than the Pro it helped to keep the PS3 above the 360 in WW sales andwith a $50 drop it would pretty much be in that same position or dead even, it would help keep the momentum going from now through the summer possibly and then another $50 drop for the holidays could have a significant bump just as the 360's $50 cut did last year around the same time. I just think it would be a much better option(s) than the rumoured $100 drop.

I think circumstances are much different this year then last...
First, families are wondering if they will have jobs or not, so when the family decides they want to buy a console, price is king no matter how big the difference is...
Second, going into last year, the hype for PS3 was off the charts... Everyone was psyched to get one, and Microsoft looked like you could touch them and PS3 would take over. Now, MS looks very solid though, they still haven't even revealed their core lineup for 2009.
Third, I think there is a feeling out there that any Sony price cut can be easily matched by Microsoft. So if you are in Sony's position, what is the best way to deal with it... Shoot first and hope? Or wait until you know consumers are in a spending mood (for Christmas) and give them good news? Even though MS may match, consumers might say "what the heck" more at that time of the year then in spring/summer.
