What are your expectations? A lot of bad reviews will most definetly affect sales, but still lets try to predict. BTW-game was released little earlier on 31 August in USA

I think around 100k-150k first week

Well there are many reviews and many ranging from 8 to 4 so the affect of reviews is impossible to even guess. Alot of the hardcore media kille dit but the more casual gave it much more favorable reviews. If reviews mattered that much mario party 8 would have been a flop.

First week..... tough ,around 100k.

But mp8 is a casual game on a casual console - Lair is not.

Something we have to debate ...

When is Lair's official release? It was supposed to be September 4th, but the street date has been broken, right? So, are we counting last week, or this full week? If last week, I think it'll be very small, cause everyone thought it would be this week. Something to the tune of 50-60k. If it's this week, I would say 100-150k.

I would give Lair a 6 or a 7 depending on how the rest of the levels go... Gonna keep playing it today and I should have a review on my site by tomorrow. It's not a bad game but the controls are slightly off (though they didn't bother me that badly) but what REALLY pisses me off about the game are how much you get torn out of gameplay by a TERRIBLE camera and the collision system (or lack therof). You move near something at the wrong angle (the ground, a building, whatever) and your dragon spins around and you completely lose track of where the hell you were going.

Seriously, it just seems like this game needs two things:

1. Two months to sort out collision/camera/control issues
2. An option for dual analog control

Those two things would make this game MUCH MUCH better. The graphics are phenominal, the music is good, and the environments are well-done. The story is jumpy and too linear; you never really get immersed into the game because it's constantly tearing you out of play for another stupid cutscene that you don't care about.

Oh, and a HUD would do this game wonders. Half the time I just attack whatever I see because going and finding the objective is annoying and constantly changing.

Street date for Lair wasnt really broken, They stealth moved the date up for release out of nowhere. Everyone thinks they got wind of what was coming review wise, so they moved the date up out of NOWHERE. Once that happened I knew something was up

It must suck to be a developer and to know the game you've been slaving over for the past few years is shit and everyone thinks it's shit.

That said, I have very low expectations for this game, but I still think it will sell over 100k in the first week, PS3 fans need something to show off the graphics capability of their new machine.

carlos: How much do you think it cost?

20m+ for sure, likely around 25 million.

Nah, developing tools and technology from ground up for Killzone 2 costed less than 20 million USD so LAIR can not cost more than 10 million.

For example Gear of War costed around 10 million

It's actually well known the overall budget is north of $20 million.

Let me tell you, it is bull .... no matter what they say. They just want to make it sound more BIG, EPIC, EXPENSIVE.

Like i said it is well known fact that Gears of war costed around 10 million usd

One has nothing to do with the other. One team can easily get more out of a smaller budget.

I still say that it is bull crap. But even if it is true, than they are idiots to invest that much money in dragon flying game.

Apparently you have no idea how much resources these kinds of things require.  Even simple casual games can cost a few million nowadays once you figure in all the costs.  Salaries are only a small part of the costs associated with a given product.  Its well known that the large high production value games like Lair can cost upwards of 20 mil now.  Killzone is said to be in the 40 mil range and will be breaking records for the most expensive game so far.

Gears of War is only 10 mil because they hid a large portion of the costs for the game in the UE3 engine development budget.  If they had to develop it from scratch solely for the game rather than as an all purpose development tool they can make money from licensing, then it would've been much more expensive.  Plus, keep in mind a lot of people complain about GoW being way too short for single player campaign.  So they shaved off a lot of level design and other costs there.

My guess..... 12.

No... not 12,000. 12.

60k and will have shorter legs than a corgi.

This has got to be the worst reviewed big budget AAA game since Daikatana.

50k - hopefully lower, lol

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

I think about 40k. Sony won't promote the game. Retailers will relegate it to back shelves quickly. Word of mouth will spread quickly. It just won't sell.

@Rath - QFT. Except Daikatana is probably a better game, and will probably sell better.

I'm still in some form of shock that this has been screwed up THIS badly. Do F5 really think there will be "another" project? Funded by Sony? Good luck...
