Wii is up 677,644 from 2008!

Wii's YoY growth keeps on diminishing. Without any real HW mover, sales will be down YoY really soon.

Wii sales are declining drastically. Here are the sales from January 08 to June 08.

You can see 3 weeks when the Wii went over 500k, even one where it reached 750k. It was clear that it was demand based, being demand higher than supply, and added to that Wii Fit and MKWii along with SSBB had just been released.


Now for the period of January 09 to April 09, things are changing.

While the first months were heavily in favour of Wii in 09, mostly due to a much higher supply, the Wii is deeply falling. There's no upcoming SW release comparable to SSBB, Wii Fit or MKWii that could manage such a boost. Adding that to the terrible situation of the Wii in Japan, it's really improbable that the Wii could be up YoY. Wii Fit and MKWii's releases in 08 will take all the lead gained by the Wii in 09, so that by the end of the 1st half, Wii will be down YoY by a million or so.

Wii is up 562,862 from 2008!

Note: This week was the worst week since the week ending 13th January in 2008. But back then the Wii was supply constrained. This week what prevented the Wii from getting higher numbers is the fact that demand is greatly down. Next week, Wii's YoY lead will disappear and will be down YoY. Last year at this time 750k Wii's were sold WW, and seeing how Wii is trending negatively, it won't be crazy to see sub 200k sales for the Wii next week.

Until late July rolls in, it will be doubtful to see the Wii go up. What we will see is a continuous drop until it stabilizes at some number that for now is unknown. The last time Wii sold less than 200k units WW was in October 2007, and it could be happening again for the next few months.

Wii is DOWN 54,315 units from 2008!  =(

Note: Wii has been adjusted down yet once again. Wii is down now YoY, with sales hovering barely over 200k during this quarter, and with enormous sales last year for the second quarter, it's now possible that we may see Wii down by 1 - 2 million before the second half starts.

The Wii needs hardware selling software. I've been thinking of whether or not the Wii has any left but the only two I can think of at the moment are Dragon Quest X and Monster Hunter 3 but those will only move hardware in Japan. I think if Wii Sports Resort is advertised in the right fashion, it may very well be a hardware seller but I can't say that with 100% certainity that it will be the Wii's "savior."
