@Feylic: What makes consoles so special compared to other hardware?

My point is that it's perfectly justified to raise prices. It doesn't even matter if it reduces sales volume, profits matter a lot more in these times.

Nothing really, just that the OP has this in it, "The Nintendo Wii could be the first console in history that will not only have held its launch price for over two years,‭ ‬but actually increase it."

My point is that the OP clearly states that this is news worthy because it is a CONSOLE, then you go and throw in that other hardware makers have done the same thing and post a link to TVs. wtf?

A video game console is a consumer electronic device and so is a TV.

Aaaahg I know!, but what does that have to do with this thread!? Which is about consoles!

Now if sony did these with the PS3 , all hell would break loose on forums. And Sony are still loosing money, But haven't yet raised the price.

By "all hell would break loose" do you mean that we would see a news item and a thread every day discussing it? Because that's what we're seeing already...

Threads discussing Nintendo or Sony ? Like I said, it would be another dig at the PS3 and Sony if this does happen.

I'm saying the reaction would probably be very similar to the irrational reaction people have had over Nintendo's proposed price increase.

Sony will be enduring the same 40% cut on their revenues from UK sales that Nintendo has been enduring. If I were a Sony fan, I'd probably prefer that Sony raise prices to try to cut losses, since the company is in hack & slash restructuring mode right now, and plummeting gaming revenues aren't going to look good to the people holding the machetes.

Prices have gone up for consumer electronics before, and it will happen again in the future.  It is nothing to freak out about.  These things happen.

I don't like it, and LOL at the defending people at the price increase, are you working for Nintendo or something, it's just seems weird to me. I would suspect, Ps3 (i would still call them out for price increase) would do it sooner, than a wii, since, they are in sh!t. IMO:(*

Yeah I agree , Sony should and Nintendo should (They have a right to) . Like you said, it would be irrational people complaining. But I do think they would complain about PS3 more as it is already that much morr expensive.

If Sony did this the internet would crash.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

It sucks, but Nintendo shouldn't have to eat economic factors out of their control. About a week after I bought a computer in October the price of the parts I bought went up about $250 total. Console's shouldn't be exempt from the situation.

The unfortunate thing here is that Microsoft and Sony have such deep pockets that they seem to be willing to eat losses in their game divisions whereas Nintendo can't exactly fall back on it's other sources of income since the gaming industry is all it has. It ends up making Nintendo look bad for trying to make a buck.

Don't know about that part. Whats sony falling back on nowadays? Yet..they haven't bumped the price. It really seems like greed on ninty's side honestly. It's not like they're taking a loss, it that the profits aren't as high as they used to be yet everyone ignores this little fact LMAO.

Nintendo doesn't take losses. That's not greed, that's just good business sense. It's what allowed them to get through the fifth and sixth generations relatively unscathed.

Possible, since PS3 sales are already not great. It could be a good thing for Sony though, they must be losing a lot of money on hardware in UK.

However Sony has increased TV prices but not PS3 prices, so I guess they think it's a bad idea for them. It's probably a good idea for Nintendo though (in the worst case they can just cut the price again).
