Forums - Gaming - Question regarding multiplatform games

This might be aimed more so to Xbox 360 and PS3 owners, that own both consoles. Which version do you tend to pick over the other. For example BioShock released on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Which version would you have bought if it was your first time actually playing BioShock.

Same can be said for games like Madden NFL or wrestling games.

xbox360.  while additional content would generally be a deciding factor (even the possibility to purchase content in the future), the 360 bioshock looked better, ran better, and was a considerable amount cheaper.

I've been going 360 so far, since it was my first console this gen and has kind of become my default setting. Plus the DLC for things like GTA IV and Fallout 3 make the 360 versions for those a no-brainer.

But if I find myself playing my PS3 more, which is quite possible now that Sony have realized that games > whatever multimedia hub bullshit and have really begun to bring it in terms of exclusive games, then there's a better chance I'll start to get PS3 versions. Or if they give a compelling reason to choose their version - say, some kind of connectivity between FFXIII and Versus.

For BioShock in particular, I don't think the challenge rooms (which you have to buy separately, right?) and marginally better graphics of the PS3 version make up for being twice the price.

I nearly always get the PS3 versions. No stupid worries about RROD, disc read problems or XBL subscription running out. And aside from FPS's, I prefer the DS 3 controller for most games. And these days every game has trophies and multiplats are, for the most part, pretty much equal.

As for Bioshock I got that on the 360 when it first came out.

Is Bioshock a fair comparison? It's $30 on the 360 and $60 on the PS3. The differences between multiplat games is so negligible, it hardly justifies paying more. That being said, I own both consoles and have the PS3 version of Bioshock(got it before my 360).

If everything is the same between each version, I'll buy the PS3 version. The reason is I prefer the Dualshock 3 to the xbox controller, and I don't want to commit to paying for Xbox Live every year. I don't think exclusive DLC will sway my decision because, I rarely buy it. I used to think DLC was a vile business practice, now I think exclusive dlc is a vile business practice.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Always the 360 version.

- prefer the controller
- don't have any friends with a PS3
- I share my games with my brother (he wouldn't give me games anymore when I'm buying multiplat games on the PS3)
- achievements (that's probably the biggest reason)

If one is noticeably better in the reviews I will generally buy that one.  After looking at the reviews if they're about the same I will generally get the 360 version because:

  1. If there's multiplayer my friends usually get the 360 version
  2. I like the 360 controller better
  3. I like achievements better than trophies

There's almost no reason to get a PS3 version over a 360 version unless you really want to avoid the 360 dpad... but then it's just easier to get a different 360 controller than a PS3.

It depends on the game.

Some types of game I prefer on the different controller

Ps3: Racing, Action, RPGs, and Fighting games are a gimme
360: FPS, TPS, and Sports games are better on 360

If there is a noticeable difference then I'll buy the other version.

The only PS3 multi-plat I've ever bought was Prince of Persia.
