where did I say profit?? I said I don't know -and no one does and yes that's including u and starcraft- how much money it will make. I copy and pasted to save time and no I'm not on fire I'm on my comfortable chair , it's really comfortable if u ask me. |
I didn't say you said profit. The part of my message YOU highlighted clearly shows I am chastising you for not being fair and calling into question others in this thread who spout the opposite point of view of starcraft. And, really, do I need to show you the quotes? I guess I do...

Odds are that even with these ridiculous speculations about dev cost and advertising, of which they have no damn clue to begin with, the game most likely already brought in profit.
Non-gravity
So they must have made money on it already.

KZ2 is an all around success, any game that sells 2 mill is making profit, This is a First party title, Sony is getting the full share of the pie here.

How do people think this wont make money for Sony? It's tracking close to COD waw. Thats at 3 Million now. Plus the DLC Coming for it
Gilgamesh
And it seems like Sony just broke even with the game after two weeks
And where do you point out their lack of facts? Or their erroneous assumptions? Could it be you actually agree with them, but pull out the "you dont know anything you stupid &%$#" card on starcraft only because he disagrees with you? Looks like it.

Thanks for keeping this civil. There's nothing that convinces an adversary of your point of view more than telling them to slap themselves. I guess we can add "childish" to "ignorant" for you, at least. I would rather him say "I actually don't know"... And why would you rather him do that? There's no need to tell anyone you don't know this or that. No one asked for your vacuous musings on the sales of some game. By asking him to say "I don't know" what you are actually doing is asking him, and anyone else with an opposing viewpoint, to avoid questioning the accepted logic in this thread that KZ2 WILL make money, a similarly ignorant and unfounded statement. So once we have established that both sides are talking out of their asses, why should you bash starcraft for claiming this side or the other and not bash the mutlitude of people who claim that KZ2 will "probably" or "most likely" make a profit, and who, when push comes to shove, would squarely plant themslves in the "yes" category when asked "Will KZ2 make a profit?" without any more evidence than starcraft? My axe to grind is with you and others claiming some sort of superiority of judgement or knowledge because you claim not to know something. Forums aren't in place so that you, blackstar, and others can circle jerk each other by serenading "we just don't know" back and forth. I'll admit starcraft should follow up with some type of expanded argument, but your claims of enlightened ignorance are laughable and a waste of space. @blackstar Brilliant rebuttle, you really showed me. Copy and pasting my own line against me? Shite man, you're on fire.

C'mon dude. Anybody saying it'll likely make a profit is basing this on the idea that games that sell well usually make money. From the looks of it, Killzone 2 wis and will continue to sell very well.
Starcraft threw out his comment based on the misguided notion that the game cost some insane amount of money, and you and I both know that he did it just to start shit. He's a troll. Nothing more.
And even if we want to get math involved, it's likely that Sony, being both the publisher and developer of the game, as well as the owner of the platform it is on, makes ~$40 per game sold in NA, and more in Europe given exchange rates. If the game sells upwards of two million before a price drop (which it should do easily - it'll probably near 3.5 million before the year is out, similar to Call of Duty 4 last year, and Sony usualy doesn't drop the price on its games for at least a year after release), then it'll have already grossed $80 million USD. Even if we eaxaggerate the rumored development costs to north of $70 million USD, it still would've broken even and then some by this point, with the game continuing to sell for at least a year after that. If it manages to break 3 million this year, it'll have grossed $120 million.
And that's assuming the $60 million figure is true, if not on the low side. In reality, it probably cost less. Kojima Productions had a larger team working on MGS4, and a similar dev cycle, while developers in Amsterdam are paid far less than those in NA and especially Japan. The budget for MGS4 is said to have only been around $50 million USD. While Geurrilla Gmaes had other expenses (expanding their studio, ecen flying in a rather large generator because the local power grid wasn't enoguh to support them), it's unlikely that it cost much more than MGS4, if it cost more at all.
Ultimately, Starcraft made a stupid comment based on a rumor and no additional logic of his own in order to get a rise out of people, and it worked. He is a troll.

LOL, I say "slap yourself" when people say something so stupid that it wouldn't be worth it for myself to slap then, so you do it yourself.
What you have someone do? Have them be up front and honest, or start pulling crap out of their ass? There is no "superiority complex" because "we don't know". We are just agreeing that it's better to be truthful rather than be ignorant.
Let's take your strategy though. It is evident that Halo Wars won't make a profit.
Where did I get this from? Where are my sources? It doesn't matter, it is fact because I said so.

that wasn't the reason u quoted me for the first time, right??? u qouted me and said i'm a waste of a space -lol- and that what i said "about not knowing anything" is wrong.
most of these qoutes where countering starcraft post -the person who trolls every KZ2 thread- and some of these qoutes show that they are not talking about it as a fact like this one "Either way, it is evident this title will not make much money for Sony."
plus, I'm not asked to reply for every post, u could've replied to them but instead u quoted me and used non-civil words then talked about being civil.
I'm free to qoute and reply to whoever I want as long as i'm not getting facts out of my ass

what he said

| makingmusic476 said: Guys, just let the argument die. |
but he started it daddy

@ dhummel
I would suggest that before you try and quote me and use me in your ridiculous argument you should take the time to also realize that I used what Konami said about MGS4.
They said MGS4 would have to sell 1M first day (I was wrong about week) to begin making "profit", key word there.
Now from what we know here MGS4 cost upwards of 60-70M to develop. Killzone 2 is being speculated to cost around 50-60M, so if it already has 1M sales shouldn't it be on it's way to profitability?
Unlike Starcraft I used something to support my argument instead of insisting my opinion = fact. He also said "It is evident this game will not make money" without anything to support his argument besides rumors. Meaning it is NOT "evident".
I brought up something arguable that we can work from. So thanks a lot for pointing me out without reading the rest of my posts in this thread.
I love this quote too. You say for him to point it out but I did give something much more credible than Starcraft. I don't fit into your argument here.
Your whole post there fell flat on it's face the moment you quoted me.
Good day sir.
Edit - It was actually "1 million on it's first day to recoup development costs". So pretty much same thing.
