Despit ehaving GTA....one of the biggest franchises in gaming

how the hell does Take Two manage to loose money

its beyond me!

Would retailers still be buying copies of a 9 month old games they've got stacks of second hand copies of? :/

It's easy when you're grossly mismanaged!

How was their 2008 Q4? :/.

Not much better:

"Net revenue for the fourth quarter was $323.4 million, compared to $292.6 million for the same period of fiscal 2007. Fourth quarter sales were led by Midnight Club: Los Angeles, NBA 2K9, Grand Theft Auto IV and Carnival Games titles. Distribution revenue rose year over year, as current generation hardware sales were fueled by the strength of new frontline titles, along with robust demand for Wii software.

Net loss for the fourth quarter was $15.0 million or $0.20 per share, compared to a net loss of $7.1 million or $0.10 per share in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007."

So same story: revenue is up, profits are down.

Also, for everyone's reference, their Q1 2009 releases were:

Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Snow Princess DS
Grand Theft Auto IV PC
MLB® Superstars Wii

What kind of idiot decides not to release more than three titles during the holiday season? I just don't understand...

In fairness to darth, their previous GTA games were likely "evergreens." GTA IV doesn't seem to share that quality though...

The Wii is causing them financial problems. They've only lost money ever since they started developing for that platform.

Tease.

And people say the Wii should be ignored...

What? All I see on this site (in regards to wii not gettting some games) are boycotts against companies that don't put their games on the wii

so ofcourse no-ones saying it should be ignored

in fact its the opposite here & everywhere now

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

i'm gonna guess it is due to retailers over ordering HD games and under or correctly ordering Wii games.

Thus they have an abundance or oversupply of HD games on their shelfs and in back of store, so when those games sell they just grab from back and restock the shelves.

Yet when Wii games sell since the retailers don't order very many of them ever no matter how good game is, they have to re-order from take two more copies.

Thus even if you have the same number of carnival games sold in january as GTA4, in the store. Take two will make more revenue from the Wii cause retailers are needing more copies of carnival games to restock shelves, and already have extra GTA4 copies so they don't need to order more.

I mean heck wasn't it stated that there were 1.1 million pre-orders of Killzone 2 in Europe yet only sold like 350k or something. that means there are 800k copies sitting in stores that they have to sell before stores start ordering more. So Sony won't be making any more moeny off Killzone 2 in Europe for a couple months probably

PC at 24% revenue thanks to GTA IV release. (up from 10% last year)
Wii leads the consoles in revenue, despite mostly horrible games coming from THQ.
The two HD consoles combined only account for only 33% of publishing revenue.

yea but i see probably just as many if not more people that will say how they absolutely LOVED kingdom heart 1&2, or put game name here ____________.   But if Kingdom hearts 3, or sequal to said game ___________ is one the Wii it would be shitty cause of the graphics would be horrible.

Will you be doing this for other third party companies as well Noname?

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

"unusual legal issues" and usual legal issues... I'm guessing that some interesting numbers will show up next quarter though... the though of getting a bigger chunck of download content probably makes those guys salivate... Microsoft may take a cut, but that's nothing compaired to the production and then distibution of a DVD is... not to mention if something is fucked up on a downloadable content they don't have to go buy all the games back haha

Sounds like a horribly run company. Maybe the company should try to sell itself before it disappears.
