Forums - Nintendo - I love the Wii, but what is it with...

NO ONLINE GAMEPLAY?  My most anticipated game this year Ghostbusters has online gameplay for the 360 and PS3.  Of Course the Wii doesn't have it.  What the hell is wrong with the mind set here?  I have tons of games that should have online gameplay and don't.  Boom Blox comes to mind, and so does Wii Sports.  I want to be able to play against other people when friends don't come over tho the house.  I don't have friends that can come over every day!  My wife doesn't like the Wii, so WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I need some damn competition!

Everyday I'm hustlin'.

Wii and DS owner.

Mario Kart Wii has the best online IMO. No lag at all! and you can do a lot on it.

There's lots of Wii games with online but yeah, a lot without.

Basically the thinking is people buy Wiis to play with their families and friends (in the house) and it's in the living room whereas HD consoles are normally in the bedroom and you're playing alone so online is a must for competition.

It sounds like the first-person will more than make up for it:

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

well, boom blox's sequel should have online, and it comes out in a couple months. but yea, it seems rather stupid that devs put online support in the PS360 versions but not he Wii version.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Nordlead Jr. Photo/Video Gallery!!! (Video Added 4/19/10)

Grr, Nordlead beat me to my point. What annoys me more is the lack of split screen multiplayer on many games, and I think the PS360 are the culprits here more often.

Swings and Roundabouts I suppose

The Wii is marketed as being a console for the living room. Even Nintendo themselves said it's a friendly system so the whole family can play. I welcome this because I hate online intensely. I imagine most developers look at how the Wii is 1)orientated to being a console where 2-4 people gather together and play and 2)the fact the vast majority of Wii's aren't online. Because the expanded audience has no interest in it. So the developer comes to the logical conclusion that online for Wii just isn't worth it. I personnally wish all games had no online. Online gaming just brings my piss to a raging boil.

Nintendo clearly has little regard for online, and it has always been that where the manufacturer leads, the 3rd parties follow. If Nintendo doesn't think it important, they won't

True enough for PS3 and 360, too. Microsoft showed its commitment to online play, so you get a lot of online play, Sony didn't so much last gen, but do this gen, and the results follow it

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Red Fly Studios is also developing the game on PS2. That's why it has no online.

EDIT: And just to prove that Wii gamers really enjoy online gmaing, NPD just stated it is the second most played online console in America.  The X360 has 50%, the Wii at 29% and the PS2and PS3 share the rest.
