I think it would help. And some new colors.

Just something about your last paragraph: I don't think it's nonesense, really. Even if 3rd Parties put a lot of effort into their games Nintendo would still release a hell of a lot of games on its systems and thus there would still be more competition for 3rd Parties and thus they'd sell less games (if the Wii has an average attach rate that is). That's what I want to say. |
But somehow DS managed to beat PS2 yearly record of 3rd party game sales even in Japan, which's quite a Nintendo-centric region if we're talking about Nintendo systems. Nintendo systems sell 3rd party games regardless of competition of 1st party games.
Even if Nintendo consoles won't sell 3rd parties, what Nintendo supposed to do? Make own games worse? Release them on Sony\Microsoft consoles instead? =)

Nah, they just have to sell a lot of consoles that's all. Just what the DS did (hey, it sold 15 million units in just 2 years) then the smaller percentage of 3rd party game sales on the system become irrelevant.
I maintain that you guys are overreacting with this Wii sales slump in Japan. Ninty just needs to release some more compelling software. The reason Wii sales are slacking is because there hasn't been any software to carry it - Wii Music and Animal Crossinig didn't keep the Wii afloat as long as Ninty anticipated it seems. Let's wait and see what happens when some games drop before we start calling for price drops. It's not that serious just yet.
Of course more traditional Japanese games would help, but they just aren't there. What I'm suggesting is something that can be done and implemented almost instantly.
Bundling Wii sports would also help, I think.
The question is whether or not Nintendo should get aggressive in Japan, or merely tread water. Short-term, they will continue to slide, but by the middle of the year they should have a number of boosts, and the boosts should increase throughout the year
A price-cut should come with the compelling software, i think. To move for a deluge of hardware, especially in the summer months that are so slow in North America and Europe

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
I think everyone here for the most part is in agreement, it's not the price, or the need for colors...it's the current "MAJOR" games drought on the Wii. For it to not go as low as it's competitors (13k or less) have without any major games means the games that are currently on it in Japan are sustaining, BUT not building.
...Personally I AM HOPING Nintendo has a few announcements at GDC in a few weeks, to help push sales back up in Japan.
Also, i think the situation in Japan is the same everywhere, It's the games that matter the most not the "NEXT BIG" price cut or color...
The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!
...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?
I think there's just been a lull in good new game releases which is hurting more than the price. For me personally, nothing has come out recently that's really perked my interest for the Wii, but there's definetely things to look forward to that should bring my attention back to it.
