Just something about your last paragraph: I don't think it's nonesense, really. Even if 3rd Parties put a lot of effort into their games Nintendo would still release a hell of a lot of games on its systems and thus there would still be more competition for 3rd Parties and thus they'd sell less games (if the Wii has an average attach rate that is). That's what I want to say.

But somehow DS managed to beat PS2 yearly record of 3rd party game sales even in Japan, which's quite a Nintendo-centric region if we're talking about Nintendo systems. Nintendo systems sell 3rd party games regardless of competition of 1st party games.

Even if Nintendo consoles won't sell 3rd parties, what Nintendo supposed to do? Make own games worse? Release them on SonyMicrosoft consoles instead? =)

Nah, they just have to sell a lot of consoles that's all. Just what the DS did (hey, it sold 15 million units in just 2 years) then the smaller percentage of 3rd party game sales on the system become irrelevant.
