Forums - Nintendo - Why did Sega support Nintendo?

Honestly, I think it was because of marketing. Sonic on PS3 might have generated a little buzz, as would Sonic on 360. However, nothing -and I mean nothing- would be bigger news to anyone who's been gaming since the SNES/Genesis days than Mario and Sonic in the same game. And if that game's sales are any indication, it worked brilliantly.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I think because Sonic pertains to the a lot of young children. Besides, Sega isn't planning to make a console, so they wouldn't have any other reason to give all the Sonic games to the Wii. When it came to which consoles had a huge casual fanbase, Sega was second to Nintendo back in the day. In other words, its only right if Sega and Nintendo make some kind of partnership.

I hope Wii will get a Virtua Fighter game from SEGA, Wii lacks a big deep fighting franchise (apart from Brawl )and i reckon this title could achieve better sales on the wii then on the HD twins that have plenty of those games like SF, tekken or SC.

Shenmue would also be cool.

And why? simply because this platform makes them money, and Wii owners do like sega games.

Graphics capacity and gameplay are one of the reasons the Wii is not appropriate for hardcore fighters.

I don't think SEGA has done bad on the HD platforms - Iron Man / Viking of Asregard / Beijing 2008 / Condemned 2 all hit over a million on PS360, Unleashed will join them soon.

They support Nintendo because their type of games suit the console more. Better suited demographic, better suited style of game etc. I couldn't see them turning House of the Dead or Jet Set Radio into a HD epic :/.

They've got plenty of HD stuff in the works still, just it doesn't seem to get much hype. I guess SEGA just arn't capable enough to make stand-out games compared to the likes of Activsion / EA / Capcom.

Don't forget, 1-2m is about the break even point for a typical HD game that costs $20-40m (according to Edge Magazine) so none of those games were really profittable.   In comparison Sonic and the Secret Rings sold 2m with a development cost of about 1/3 or less than Unleashed.  So it was easily profitable after the first 500k

Games like Iron Man and Beijing 2008 won't have costed anywhere near $20 million, albeit may not have great profits due to the license fees. I doubt Condemned or Viking cost that much either, if they did it's SEGA's bad for blowing their money away like that.

I was just saying SEGA haven't had that rough of a time of it on PS360 (except that Golden Axe Game), they've obviously had more success on the Wii thus far but they're still bringing Alpha Protocol, Aliens:Colinial Marines, Alien vs Predator, Stormrise, Yakuza 3 etc to the HD platforms :/.

Which lends nicely to my point that SEGA just ain't got the talent for HD developement, as no one seems to have a clue what those games are :P.

FIghters could be so much better on the Wii, if only anyone had the guts to develop a proper motion interface and make people use it.

And PS2 or DC were good enough??

Of Course they could develop a game that is graphically good looking (for the Wii standards ) and played well on NIntendo system, it wouldnt just look as good as PS3, i do not really see the problem.

Plus it could use few control systems, with GC, Classic Controller or Motion based one, just look how well Dragon Ball Tenkaichi Budokai 3Play on the Wii.

So Wii is as appropriate for hardcore fighters as PS360, if you think about it.

I think they should bring out a Sega rally game for the Wii. That would be awesome.

DON'T WIN ME CHIBI BUDDY DON'T WIN ME.

ANIMAL CROSSING NEW LEAF FRIEND CODE:- 5129 1175 1029. MESSAGE ME.
ANDY MURRAY:- GRAND SLAM WINNER!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Forget rally, I need to play a new Sega GT, ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Besides for the entire wanting to make money thing, I have no idea why Sega would want to support Nintendo. They really should be concentrating their efforts on making big budget flops for the HD systems.

Based on actual fact on games released by Sega this gen. Sega has released more games for HD consoles. Other than releasing shitty sonic games on all platforms, the only decent exclusive games on Wii by Sega are Madworld, House of the Dead:OK, and maybe the Conduit. By contrast on HD consoles, you have the core Sega franchises: Virtua Fighter, Yakusa, Valkyria Chronicles, Bayonetta. My point, Sega aren't doing that great on the Wii, stop putting them on a pedestal. I would argue they support HD consoles with more hardcore games than the wii, but people don't look at the facts.
