Top 10 games in sales:

Sony: 21.1million

Microsoft: 35.72 million

Even accounting for userbase differentials, Microsoft EASILY matches Sony in published game sales, and the difference is even greater if all titles are counted, but I just couldn't be bothered.

Nintendo top 1 game in sales:

16.63m

Nintendo top 2 games in sales:

31.44m

That's 10m more than Sony for only Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii.

Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii > All of Sony's 1st party confirmed?

/sarcasm off

It's true that Microsoft has done really well at publishing this gen, but I think the numbers will change considerably once the next Gran Turismo is released on the PS3.

I don't think one game will change the stat much.  Gran Turismo, Unchartered 2, and God of War III will be big for PS3...

But, Microsoft doesn't announce a lot of their games until E3.  On the 360 side, there will probably be Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2 (assuming it is still a timed exclusive), Halo: ODST, Killer Instinct 3, Perfect Dark (True sequel), and Forza 3 to counter.

They haven't even announced that it isn't going to be exclusive, whats this timed exclusive nonsense.  I would plan on this being exclusive until otherwise informed.

GT wont change a thing. MS is publishing two more titles from Rare that are huge this year and will be revealed at E3. Are you crazy? Sony has met their match as far as publishing is concerned.

The only Rare title that's even in the top 10 is the original Viva Pinata. If they met their match, it's not Rare, Unless they're throwing all the people from the other studios that they closed into the Rare studios.

@ Jo21: It could also be because he was forced to change his avatar to Killzone 2.

As I said, the two Rare titles that are going to be announced are reportedly huge. Why are you misunderstanding my entire point?  Both of those two titles are being funded my MS. If they've met their match it's not Rare? What does that have to do with anything? Rare is a great studio who has the financial backing now to make a great game. Will they do it? We'll see, but for the past two years gaming mags have been saying what they've got cooking will be their biggest accomplishment on the 360.

Rare had 3 projects last year alone. Banjo-Kazooie was supposed to be huge for Rare. Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise was supposed to equal the success of the original. And then there were the avatars, which may not be a game, but it was often referred to as a "big project." I am hoping for a Rare comeback but at the same time, I don't want to get my hopes up too high. Rare games (to me at least) have a completely different feel then other Microsoft games, which is a good thing imo.

How am I misinterpretting your point? Somebody says they think GT will be huge, your response is No it won't. and then you say Sony has met their match but you really didn't give any reason to think that they have besides mentioning Rare has 2 projects. Many great gaming companies have 2 solid projects release in 1 year. Insomniac released Resistance 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Quest 4 Booty last year. It doesn't guarantee that it will be amazing or blow people away.

Rares 3 projects last year were not as hyped as these two as you very well know. I never said GT wont be huge. I want that game more than any other car game. GT is my favorite racing franchise and i'll only play GT. I lost faith in Need for Speed games that came after Hot Pursuit. The whole "Fast and the Furious" crap was pissing me off and trust me I don't get fun out of seeing who can get the biggest nitrus boost. I get it out of how much I can get out of the old NFS games (IE: Arcade style racing, cop chases and more.). Project Gotham and Forza are great, but they just aren't for me.My point which should not be misunderstood is that MS surpasses Sony as far as producing is concerned. If we should count both games production costs on consoles and other platforms Microsoft wins by a mile.

Something about a 60 day ban...

Its pretty obvious why microsoft published games are selling more. The 360 has a larger install base.

Quality wise both are pretty damn good publishers.

If we're talking total, it's nearly impossible to say. There are tons of untracked and undertracked games for both publishers (most notably the Singstar franchise for Sony), and you have to remember that Microsoft publishes games for the PC as well.

If we're talking by week, Sony wins most weeks, so they're the bigger publisher. Microsoft has released a bunch of games with big launches and average legs, so their total is bigger. But when it comes to weekly sales, Sony is a larger publisher.

If we're talking about this generation only, then Microsoft is bigger. Sony hasn't released Gran Turismo or anything comparable in size, whereas Microsoft has created some large new IPs to complement Halo.

Nowhere.

He's actually assuming you're smart enough to understand that the top 10 games he's referring to are from the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. If you're not sure you can make the sum by yourself.

Clearly assuming intelligence was my biggest error.

To all those claiming that Sony has better first party development. Is it your submission that Microsoft gamers receive more, high-quality titles than Sony gamers, but that this is all ok because the few Sony gamers get are designed by Sony themselves?

Good god why do you persist in this? There is no myth except for the one in your mind. It seems lately the only people that bring statement like this up are the one's that wants to do a rebuttle on a none-existing argument.

*Sony Fan Statement #01 - Sony is a bigger publisher -  ONLY if you count the published games and not the number of sales!

*Sony Fan Statement #02 - Sony has more first part studios - Fact

*Sony Fan Statement #03 - Sony has superior exclusives - Subjective and not worth arguing about -meme!

Stop making a mountain out of a anthill, some one said it already in this thread, MS doesn't need defending.

Keep in mind Sony's efforts aren't solely on the PS3 like Microsoft's are for the 360. Sony also is currently developing for PS2 and PSP. So top ten of those two:

PS2 = +57.98

PSP = +12.94

Total= 92.02 million

Also keep in mind that these figures are highly incomplete and the total in reality is probably much higher.

i don't think gran turismo is as popular as it used to be.

and why exactly do you think this? do you think the gran turismo fans just one day decided that they dont like the game anymore.
