Either way, the problem with Square Enix is not poor sales (that aren't even poor to begin with), the problem is that Square are pompous assholes and are shoving out (apparently) subpar games. And also that they announced FF13 in ... 2005? And we still haven't even got a release date for it. I hope FF13 bombs just so Square Enix can be served a massive helping of humble pie... But I know that won't happen. Sadly.

You think that if FFXIII bombs it will somehow make them develop ff games faster? what an interesting theory.

   And I bet you havent played either Star Ocean 4 or The Last Remnant, have you?

No, I think that if FF13 bombs, Square-Enix will stop acting as if they're kings of the gaming world and that anything they touch turns to gold. They need a serious reality check, and quick.

No, I have not played Star Ocean 4 or The Last Remnant. That's why I say *apparently* subpar. I have no idea if they actually are subpar, and I'm not labeling them as such. But the general consensus seems to be that they are. Well, not SO4. But IU and TLR.

 Its sales will very likely be more than the total sales of all PS3/Wii/360 jRPGs combined.

   You have a point though - about MS being too late. But they want to have a better start next gen and have decided that it's better to start pushing Xbox brand in Japan right now.

Hard times for JRPG fans? No hard time for fanboys. JRPG fans buy the consoles with JRPGs. Fanboys buy consoles without JRPGs and whine about not having any JRPGs to play. Then they proceed to hit up video game forums and troll posts for the JRPGs they can't play because they didn't bother to check the release lists before making their purchase. This isn't 2005. It's obvious where the JRPGs are going at this point. Either buy the hardware that can play it, or shut up about it and give the rest of us true JRPG fans some peace.

As I can see I was off with the idea that FFXIII can outsell all these games combined. I always forget how many completely unknown and Japan-only jRPG titles there are.

Hmmm, also to undying:

I agree that the 360 has more JRPGs and if you add Fable, the balance will tip towards the 360 for a long time to come (unless FF XIII blows everything out of the water in Japan alone).

But if you want the best game out there in the JRPG (well, RPG genre allround), you should gun for a PS3 tbh.  Nothing so far in this generation on the HD consoles (don't know too much about the wii rpg's so won't comment on those) comes even close to Valkyria Chronicles tbh.
