How do you define flop? It lost money? Bad sales? Low scores?

If so, I think IU also fits the bill of no one made money off of it.

How do you know IU lost money ?  The game itself is essentially just a cheap tech demo for the IU graphics engine. The engine development was no doubt expensive, but the cost will be split across several games including SO4. Apart from the graphics engine costs, Radiata Stories was probably more expensive than IU. It's a bigger game with much more content.

Anyway I don't really see your point. Lots of games lose money, and that was true for the previous generation as well. Do you think Radiata Stories and Romancing SaGa made money ?

My point was that it's unreasonable to expect IU and TLR to sell better (or score better) than the previous (PS2) games from the same development teams. Rational people don't suddenly expect an AAA game from a second rate development team.

Nothing is ever certain but it's highly likely that IU lost money. A brand new ip that had three years in the oven and a brand new engine specfically designed for it. The HD graphics, etc are extrememly expensive to produce. And I'd say the first disk of IU cost more than Radiata Stories. I'm going to have to call you crazzy if you think that Radiata cost more than IU.

Both are relatively cheap games for their consoles, but 470k isn't near enough to break even.

And I do think Romancing saga made money. It wasn't a very expensive game and it used sprites.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Come on, do you people still believe that a JRPG, especially one that uses an already existing engine (i.e. The Last Remnant) that sells over 500k is a massive flop? JRPGs have never been a big genre. Anyone expecting huge sales from a genre like this needs to get a slap in the face. Now. (Unless the game has Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest in it's name.)

no my freind you dont get it

these are hard times for rpg fans , and putting these rpgs on one side of the market aint going to help the sales .

JRPG fans should buy the 360!

Nah JRPG fans should still keep their PS2.

Seriously at the moment the only JRPG on x360 worth playing is LO especially considering ToV and SO4 is not released in europe.

I disagree, obviously, but whatever. I just always find it funny that people are complaining that their PS3 doesn't have enough JRPGs, bitching a blue streak whenever a new JRPG is announced for the 360 (even if they try to resassure themselves that the games aren't that good), and spending so much time on the interwebz going, "LOL ANOTHER FLOP!" But if they'd just get over their brand loyalty and purchase the console whose manufacture is going out of the way to get games in their favored genre, they could play some Japanese role-playing games instead of playing the waiting game.

QFT! Fuck Microsoft and Sony. Play the games.

Yeah I said the same thing earlier in the thread. Hell, I'm been saying the same thing on this very forum for going on two years now. I'm sick of the fan boys. It's why I don't post nearly as much as I used to.

Alright, now. So what were all those JRPG fans doing for the past 6 months? Nothing has been worth playing since Vesperia.

I haven't played SO yet, but if you think the 360 has a lot of JRPGs. Goodness, I'd like whatever you're smoking.

good thing we don't all think the same. I've enjoyed Infinite Undiscovery, and The Last Remnant.

I disagree. Infinite Undiscovery was pretty fun, and Last Remnant downright rocks. But, of course, you are just as entitled to your wrong opinion as I am to my right one.

And while the 360's JRPG line-up might not be rivaling the PS2's any time soon, I don't really know what else to recommend to the discontent Playstation fans. It's either

or
