Hi, I'm new in this page.... I'm spanish so sorry for my bad english

I saw in VGChartz that Killzone sold 350k in Europe  (why do you call Others?)... here in Spain Killzone 2 sold more than 350k first days.
Maybe 350k was only in UK but if you count all sales it could be 1M or higher.

I think first week numbers are wrong, it must be more than 1M (EU and US).

You can read the article here:

h ttp://euskalbart.wordpress.com/2009/03/02/las-buenas-ventas-de-killzone-2-en-espana/

"Las ventas en España han sido soberbias, superando las 350.000 copias en su primera semana..."

"Killzone 2 sales in Spain has been fantastic, it has sold more than 350.000 units first week..."

I wanna know how much this game has sold!

If you look at the charts, it says that Killzone 2 has sold 353,294 copies in two days in America and 372,625 copies in four days in Europe. Thay may not be entirely correct, though.

I also believe Killzone 2 was released in UK on the 27th?

Yes, I know... but if in Spain sold more than 350k, how it's possible EU only sold 372k?

I think was released 26 in UK but I'm not sure... in Spain was released 25.

I think Killzone 2 is a better game, but that doesn't make it a Halo killer, because Halo cannot be killed. It is timeless. It's like calling LBP a Mario Killer, or Fable a Zelda Killer (seen both of those on VGC sadly)

I've seen a couple of people here saying that Killzone 2 would be a Halo killer, but not one person predicted over 3 million first week.

So a series to be "killed" (replaced by another series as king), there needs to be more than the challenger being excellent.  What needs to happen is the king needs to stumble.  This has happened in the past actually.  If you look at arena fighting FPS titles, you had Quake which was king.  Well, it did a mediocre job with Quake 3 Arena, and then Unreal Tournament took over.  Unreal Tourmanent was the "Quake killer" in  regards to this area.  It just did more of everything, and Unreal Tournament then became the top Arena FPS franchise.  iD basically gave up in this area, and went back to making engines, and focusing on single player.  Of course, having Romero leave didn't help matters for them.

I don't know, really... Perhaps it's shipped or something like that...

And that article is also from March 3rd.

Wecome to the site.

Anyways, obviously it isn't possible so I checked the article, and I can not find any source for where they got their number. Without a source, for all I know they pulled it out of thin air. Honestly I think they misinterpreted some other number, as 350k in 1 week in spain alone seems WAY to high. It could possibly be 350k spain retailer pre-orders, they could be quoting all of Others from VGChartz as sales in spain, or it could be real. I can't really say.

As for the why the region is labeled "Others" it is because it not only includes Europe, but also Australia, New Zeland, and all the other countries not included in Japan, or the American continents.

Chart track releases uk sales don't it, once that's out that will be interesting.

vg has a history of under tracking PS3 games, Uncharted i think was a severe case of that. Though 350k in Spain alone seems like way to much. That be more possible in the UK.

?????? regarding us sales, since it came out on Friday, how many sales days are in its first "week" ???????

 Thanks for the welcome!

I read the article again. It refers to Spain sales, I don't know if their numbers are wrong or no but I can say that here in Spain a lot of people have a PS3. You know, people who have X360 in Spain say "Spain is a Sony Land" xD!

Well, we have to wait to see the final numbers... if the numbers of the article are true then Killzone 2 sales will be highter than 1M in first week.

Hmm, Killzone 2 is almost officially IMO the 3rd biggest FPS series on consoles in this generation.

Yay?

Boo?

In any case its some pretty solid work there, I was disapointed in how R2 diminished against the likes of COD, however I believe that KZ has the stuff like GoW/Halo to go head to head against COD and prosper which is something very few FPS/shooters themselves can manage.

So KZ2 is going to trump Call of Duty 4 and World at War?

According to VGChartz, CoD 4 sold over 4 million world-wide on the PS3 alone.  Also, according to VGChartz, World at War nearly sold 3 million.

Now, I will say that KZ2 appears to be a lock AT LEAST for the 3rd biggest EXCLUSIVE console 3D shooter (First and third person.  Gears enables first person aiming, so it should be consider to be like Halo and CoD and KZ2) for this generation.  The first two, which are locks to be in Halo 3 and Gears (will count this as a series, because can pick either one and you are looking at over 4 million sales).

I said series...

Ok, I haven't read the thread, but I'm very disappointed in American sales. Granted we only had 2 days of sales due to a weird Friday launch I expected it to manage more than Europe anyways.

All this wasn't based off hype, but based off European pre-order sales. My european prediction was only slightly too high, where as my US prediction was WAY too high. Looks like Sony wins another one with the over stuffing channels.

You have to keep in mind that Killzone is different from other shooters.  The first sold far more in Europe than it did in North America, going against the grain of the genre.

I expected Killzone 2 to follow a similar path, and considering the fact that games in Europe tend to have better legs, I think the European lifetime numbers will end up higher than the NA numbers in the end.

I'm not sure why this is, however.  It could be because Guerilla Games are some of the rere devs from Northern and Eastern Europe, so they may generate more supposrt from European gamers (Killzone was the best selling ps2 game ever in Poland, for example), and it may also be that SCEE pushes the game more than SCEA, particularly in the country it was made (the Netherlands), a country that probably gets pretty ignored by most publishers when it comes to advertising. It may also be that being Europeans, Guerrilla Games managed to create a franchise somewhat more appealing to Europeans than Americans.

you mean GeoW, God of War (GOW) is not a FPS.  Get your acronyms right! didn't we have a thread on this?

You're arguing with the guy who made the thread saying that Gears should be GoW, which everybody thought he was banned for because he was silly enough to tell makingmusic to give him a funny ban reason for his requested ban, and he promptly got unbanned 27 days before his ban was supposed to expire. Lol.

OT: 720k first week in the West. Not bad at all. With 40k from Japan, that'll bring it to 760k, only 40k below my prediction of 800k. I have a feeling it's a little bit undertracked in Europe...1.1 million shipped as of three weeks ago, perhaps 1.5 million now. That means another 1 million sitting on shelves...

It'll have strong legs, being a shooter. Notice how all of the 360 fanboys have switched from "the first week sales will suck" to "lol, below Gears and Halo" and "it won't have legs". They switched from "It won't push hardware" to "Lol, Sony's "savior" (a term only they used) only made the PS3 outsell the 360 in Others by 150 copies lol"

It's a little bit stupid to compare this to Halo 3. Nobody said it would be a Halo killer. Nobody. It would have been lucky to get a third of Halo 3's first week sales. Halo is a massive series with Microsoft advertising and a vast loyal fanbase. Also, holiday season release...

It's almost as stupid to compare it to Gears of War 2. Sequel to Gears of War, published by Microsoft, vs. sequel to Killzone, published by Sony. Hmm...

It's only fair to compare it to other FPS games on the PS3:

CoD:WaW first week: 735,630. Little bit below. Now at 2.96 million.

Resistance 2 first week: 403,349. Well above. Now at 1.46 million.

CoD4 first week: 444,646. Well above. Now at a whopping 4.05 million.

RFOM: 242,258. Lol. Now at 3.55 million.

Bad Company: 139,741. ROFL. Now at 0.72 million. Killzone 2 is now tied with Bad Company in sales

Unreal Tournament III: 122,806. Mmhmm... Now at 0.60 million.

Basically, it's the second highest FPS opening, and the fourth highest opening for a PS3 game. This, with pretty much no fanbase to speak of, and a February release. Not bad. And as for stopping at 2 million... Look at the first four games. Did/will any of them stop anywhere near 2 million? World at War will sell over 4 million, R2 should cross 3 million, CoD4 has already crossed 4 million. I can see sales similar to World at War, around 4.5 million when all is said and done.

But Killzone 3 could possibly outsell Halo 3's opening week.
