Hey, aren't we supposed to be discussing Killzone 2, not Gran Turismo 5 which might not even get released this year?

Anyways, to be on topic, according to VG Chartz KZ1 sold a little over half a million copies LTD. It's sequel sold more than that in it's first week. I'd say that's really good sales.

Yes, we are. But some guys seriously think GT5 can do H3 numbers... Dude...

and some seem to be dense nuff not to know that the best selling GT has the best selling Halo beat by give or take 5 freaking million.

so dude try to comprehand every market loves GT, GT is a 5/7 million seller with out NA while Halo with out NA is nothing.

a 40$ demo did 640k in its first week that looks to be more then Halo Wars kid,  how big a seller GT is.

True, but GT5 will not outsell Halo 3. It will end up about 2 million short.

Hmm, Killzone 2 is almost officially IMO the 3rd biggest FPS series on consoles in this generation.

Yay?

Boo?

In any case its some pretty solid work there, I was disapointed in how R2 diminished against the likes of COD, however I believe that KZ has the stuff like GoW/Halo to go head to head against COD and prosper which is something very few FPS/shooters themselves can manage.

you mean GeoW, God of War (GOW) is not a FPS.  Get your acronyms right! didn't we have a thread on this?

You're arguing with the guy who made the thread saying that Gears should be GoW, which everybody thought he was banned for because he was silly enough to tell makingmusic to give him a funny ban reason for his requested ban, and he promptly got unbanned 27 days before his ban was supposed to expire. Lol.

OT: 720k first week in the West. Not bad at all. With 40k from Japan, that'll bring it to 760k, only 40k below my prediction of 800k. I have a feeling it's a little bit undertracked in Europe...1.1 million shipped as of three weeks ago, perhaps 1.5 million now. That means another 1 million sitting on shelves...

It'll have strong legs, being a shooter. Notice how all of the 360 fanboys have switched from "the first week sales will suck" to "lol, below Gears and Halo" and "it won't have legs". They switched from "It won't push hardware" to "Lol, Sony's "savior" (a term only they used) only made the PS3 outsell the 360 in Others by 150 copies lol"

It's a little bit stupid to compare this to Halo 3. Nobody said it would be a Halo killer. Nobody. It would have been lucky to get a third of Halo 3's first week sales. Halo is a massive series with Microsoft advertising and a vast loyal fanbase. Also, holiday season release...

It's almost as stupid to compare it to Gears of War 2. Sequel to Gears of War, published by Microsoft, vs. sequel to Killzone, published by Sony. Hmm...

It's only fair to compare it to other FPS games on the PS3:

CoD:WaW first week: 735,630. Little bit below. Now at 2.96 million.

Resistance 2 first week: 403,349. Well above. Now at 1.46 million.

CoD4 first week: 444,646. Well above. Now at a whopping 4.05 million.

RFOM: 242,258. Lol. Now at 3.55 million.

Bad Company: 139,741. ROFL. Now at 0.72 million. Killzone 2 is now tied with Bad Company in sales

Unreal Tournament III: 122,806. Mmhmm... Now at 0.60 million.

Basically, it's the second highest FPS opening, and the fourth highest opening for a PS3 game. This, with pretty much no fanbase to speak of, and a February release. Not bad. And as for stopping at 2 million... Look at the first four games. Did/will any of them stop anywhere near 2 million? World at War will sell over 4 million, R2 should cross 3 million, CoD4 has already crossed 4 million. I can see sales similar to World at War, around 4.5 million when all is said and done.

But Killzone 3 could possibly outsell Halo 3's opening week.

No it couldn't. Not even close. It could definitely do a million, though. Here's what determines a game's first week sales:

-Desirability

-Advertising

-Quality of previous game (if applicable)

-Popularity of series (if applicable)

Killzone 3 will have the first and third, but the series is still nowhere near as huge as Halo, and Sony's advertising just isn't good enough.

Halo 3 came off a game that sold 8.1 million units. Killzone 3 will come off a game that will sell around 4.5 million units. And of course, after that there will be Halo 4, which could easily top four million first week. Unless it slips up and isn't good, which is the only possible way that Halo can be killed. Regardless, though, it will do above two million first week. If Halo dies, Call of Duty is ready to step in. But that's extremely unlikely. Or is it? Bungie are making one more Halo game, and that's a standalone expansion.

If Halo 4 exists, Bungie probably won't be making it. Although they might.

Read the thread title. That has nothing to do with this thread. I think it constitutes trolling, actually...

I think you’re wrong and this is why.

Killzone 2 didn’t sell very well in its first week because Killzone 1 was relatively mediocre. Killzone 3 has Killzone 2 behind it, and it has a chance because Killzone 2 sold millions and was super hyped and PS3’s the FPS.

It will almost certainly outsell Killzone 2 and have a higher first week, yes.

But it is nowhere near powerful enough to tackle Halo 3 yet. It would need Microsoft to back it, and even then, it wouldn't be until Killzone 4 that a KZ game did more than Halo 3 first week. And of course, Sony owns the IP and the developers, so Microsoft could never back it.

Killzone 4, if Sony manages to learn how to advertise a game, could outsell Halo 3 first week. But how many gamers have heard of Master Chief, and how many have heard of Jan Templar and Tomas Sevchenko?

Well, only 725,000 for this over hyped game?
I won't say it's flopped, but it isn't doing as good as what fanboys expected.

Well, now I know how much KZ2 sold in Spain... I posted a comment with an article but it was wrong, it refers to EU no Spain sales.

"El título de Guerrilla ha conseguido vender ya en España más de 24.000 ejemplares desde su lanzamiento, según datos de GfK International ofrecidos por SCEE."

More than 24.000 copies. Good sales here.
