Forums - Sales - I've always known Star Ocean was never a big franchise.

TLR = 490k shipped at the end of 2008?

So according to VGChartz, considering it released WW on Nov. 20th, that would imply by the end of 2008 it sold between 436k-484k. So it pretty much almost completely sold out WW and only had between 6k-54k copies remaining on store shelves Worldwide. Then after that it went on to sell almost 30% more copies?

I hope they have fun trying to prove that.

If not, I would say the game is obviously overtracked.

I will check sales weeks for IU as well, it may comes out to be the same case, although probably less likely since it released in September.

Can someone tell me if they really think this is the case?

Edited post, originally confused it with the 440k for UI. Either way, point still stands.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

what i came in here to say before i got side tracked.

SO is a big franchise you cant say it never was. saying it isnt anymore would be more accurate and we'd place that on business decisions. im not sure if MS paid more than enough to cover lost sales like people were preaching. this doesnt look to sell any better than LO so they are losing 1million or more sales.

Still awesome.

Quality wise and sales.

If it weren't for the stupid VA... I would agree in quality wise. Still that may change once I play it later. If it has the original JP audio then I will completely agree with you.

oh and the sales wise.... I'm disappointed.

I believe people have commented that they hope if it comes to PS3 that it will include the JP audio, so that leads me to believe that SO4 does not have the option currently.

...

People SO4 is already the second best selling 360 game in Japan after two weeks and is only weeks away from being the best selling 360 game in Japan so its hardly a flop. The only console JRPG that is close to selling 1 million copies this generation is Lost Odyssey and that's on the 360.

So if it gets over 500k in a year will it be considered a flop?

Lost Odyssey is going to be the only JRPG to even reach one million world wide at this point for next gen console JRPGs till the next Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy come out.

Western RPG is the way to go if you want sales these days. Look at Fable, Fallout, Oblivion and of course Mass Effect.

It's just that simple.

i'm not saying its a flop. i'm saying that star ocean has never been a big franchise as some people seem to believe. its selling as a mediocre franchise as it has always been.

They knew it wouldn't sell millions of copies to begin with because so far this generation no console JRPG has sold millions and all the people that claim it would sell better if it would be on the PS3 are wrong also just look at the sales for Eternal Sonata for the PS3 it sold a lot less then the 360 version even though it was a superior port with extra content.

I find it funny how people say that PS3 doesn't either sell JRPG's when it has only one big budged JRPG and that is released so far only in Japan.
