can't we at least wait a couple more weeks before we start judging the games sales?? I mean damn lets see how the legs are in N.America first...

if i had a nickle everytime starcraft said something negative about k2 id be richer than you

nice try.....

if you think that killzone 2 thread was worse than all the negative talk about 360 jrpgs...then I don't know what to tell you...

You do realize the only reason people get on them like that is because originally it was the 360 fans who said the PS3 couldn't sell JRPGs. Now that they are continuosly getting proven wrong it has reverted to damage control.

In WKC case, right off the bat sales were shot down with arguments like "install base", yet when I made my comparison above it seems that the argument no matter matters in this case. They can't have it both ways.

@Shadowblind

About TLR.

Check this from this very same thread. I guess you chose to ignore this huh?

TLR = 490k shipped at the end of 2008?

So according to VGChartz, considering it released WW on Nov. 20th, that would imply by the end of 2008 it sold between 436k-484k. So it pretty much almost completely sold out WW and only had between 6k-54k copies remaining on store shelves Worldwide. Then after that it went on to sell almost 30% more copies?

I hope they have fun trying to prove that.

If not, I would say the game is obviously overtracked.

I'm sorry, I was unaware that we are still living in 2008. At the same time I suppose I should have ignored this post in the first place as well, as you seem to have ignored my response, albeit a short one, to Max. Though I would like you to point me to all these great selling PS3 JRPGs while your at it.

Show me an exclusive PS3 JRPG first.

Not a SRPG.

Well now we have a problem. When does WKC come out in the US?

P.S. I dont really know if Folklore is a JRPG or not, but it sold 200k. Judging from its release date and name though, I'd guess it is.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Continiously getting proven wrong? how? did I miss something? Is there a load of PS3 jRPGs with great sales hiding somewhere?

Read what I wrote to Shadowblind. You show me an exclusive JRPG released on the PS3.

We are still waiting for WKC. What I am showing is that even the SRPGs are on par with most of the 360 JRPG outside of LO. SRPG is also much much much more niche.

This is going by the same BS userbase argument people use against WKC in Japan sales. PS3 SRPG's get around 30-50% of 360 JRPG title sales on half the install base, so going by logic used around here it would mean these SRPG can possibly sell 60-80% of that, and I think we would all agree that JRPG sells much better than SRPG. How do 360 SRPG sales look compared to PS3's?

You have nothing on me pal. Keep trying. I am bringing up fact, you have brought up nothing yet.

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Everybody who thinks SO4 had a possibility to surpass SO3 sales should just go home.
SO4 did not flop, but it hasn't sold great either. However it's on a good way to be one of the best selling JRPG's of this gen. Maybe some disillusionated fanboys didn't notice that JRPGs on ALL console platforms are selling much worse than last generation.

Now to those people who scream "oooh SE you fail !!!".
They released the game on the 360 for a reason. They knew it would not sell that many copies in Japan, but they surely received a bunch of money from Microsoft. Besides that the game engine was practically paid by MS. Never forget, MS published Infinite Undiscovery together with Square Enix.

and finally just LOOOOL to that guy who thinks SO4 failed quality wise. It has about the same aggregate score as the previous Star Ocean games.

Did I say that KZ2 was a failure? We were arguing budgets. Again, I only used the Failzone 2 chide as a point that everyone wants to argue and speculate about a franchises success on first week sales.

And what if Killzone 2 has horrible legs and sells 2m units. Is that a failure then? Do we know that will be the case? No. Do we know that KZ2 will sell 3-4m units? No. We won't be able to make a good guess as to how that'll all go until week 3. If KZ2 is selling over 140k in both territories, then we can reasonably assume it'll do well. If not, it may struggle. But all we can do is make assumptions. Either way, you can't call anything. I'd love to call a 750k start for KZ2 as being lukewarm given the hype, but it could blow up in my face if the hype yields sustained legs. Thats why we can't jump to conclusions. The only thing we do know is that the budget for KZ2 is a little bit beyond the typical game.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Square-enix did probably ship a lot of new units for Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remant after those great sales in 2008. They where even generous for cutting the price after a week.

You have nothing but your hopes. Basically, you act as if some major PS3 exclusive jRPG has already got released and turned into a major success. But guess what? Nothing like this has happened.

But then again, isnt "Believe" a key word for PS fanboys? keep believing then. But dont pretend like you know for a fact that PS3 sells jRPGs better if you have nothing buy your hopes to prove it.

Sales Wise - Not Really.
Value? Star Ocean is Huge!

so3 sold about 2 million units. so4 doesnt look like it will see more than lo but ill still say 1mil (im being generous since lo is still 90k away from that ) se is losing about 1million in sales. unless ms paid 25million(which again being generous since devs get about 27 dollars per copy) it was a bad business decision. i say no more than 15million(which again is being generous considering the gsme probably didnt cost that much) .

P.S. I dont really know if Folklore is a JRPG or not, but it sold 200k. Judging from its release date and name though, I'd guess it is.

What I am saying here is that facts already show that even with a smaller install base the PS3 already sells better in terms of SJRPGs than the XBox360 so why do people assume it won't be the case with JRPGs? Going by the same userbase argument it can be said that PS3 SJRPG in the US sell almost on par with US JRPG sales on the 360 outside of a title like Lost Odyssey, which was also the 360's first big JRPG, just as WKC will be. So why will do people think it won't sell too?

As I said before, WKC will have to sell 100k lifetime in the US and 30k in it's first week in order for me to be proven wrong.

This is a HUGE double standard by so many in this thread.

@Stickball

It sold 350k in the US on only 2 days worth of sales. It has over 750k sales for it's "First Week".

Look around the forum as well, majority of this site predicted 500-1M first week sales with the median being 750k.

How did it fail for us and the hype when the "hype" predicted pretty much the same sales it had?

Whatever bro. I am hitting you with numbers, you know, FACTS!

You are coming back with empty words.

So the first JRPG for the 360 can sell big but the first JRPG for the PS3 can't?

Talk about your double standards pal.

Who is more credible here?

Come back when you have a real argument.

Like I said before, if exclusive SJRPG already sell better on the PS3 what makes you assume that exclusive JRPG's won't sell good either? Try answering that one. I am at least giving a valid argument, you're not giving a valid counter point.

You're toast.
