Forums - Sales - I've always known Star Ocean was never a big franchise.

To be honest ps3 sales if it ever happens would only add the same in US and EU and an extra 200k in JP. I dont think jrpgs are too popular outside of the usual suspects FF and DQ

Higher debut then TLR despite being surrounded by a Halo game, Resident evil 5 and zomg killzone, and TLR sold 600k and still selling. Save the hurr durring until we get somemore weeks numbers hmm?

Although I have greater reason to believe its more angry ps3 fanboys then dissapointed analysts. And I know it may come as a shock to many, but guess what; 360 JRPGs have LEGS in America; in fact they are never big frontloaded:

vgc is severly over tracking tlr se reports show that. probably overtracking iu too but not by much probably really close. and tlr had christmas sales for the "legs"

Oh...well that changes things. Incidently, can I have the link to that report for comparisons sake?

Since their are three times as many PS3 in Japan. Yakuza 3 actually did worse in its first week then SO4.

Huh?

XBox360 has double the install base as the PS3 in the US and a much much much more niche game in Valkyria Chronicles sold half SO4 numbers, so we can assume that if userbase was the same a new IP in a more niche genre would have sold on par with a 1M+ selling franchise that comes from a less niche genre? Now not only is it an SRPG which on average sell much less than your standard JRPG and a new IP compared to an established franchise and Tri-Ace's flagship series, also remember that Star Ocean actually has a history that shows it sells well in the US.

Going by this logic you have we can assume SO4 would have in fact sold better on the PS3 in the US.

For your pathetic userbase argument to work you better hope WKC does less than 30k in it's opening week for the US.

We've seen litterally dozens of quotes about KZ2's budget, so it's hard to say that it's impossible to put a pricetag on what it cost. If you want to argue that, we can do it in another thread.

How is 60k a 'horrible' opening in North America? It's better than the launches of every other X360 JRPG outside of Lost Odyssey, and managed to beat out a lot of other non-360 JRPGs for debuts such as Persona 3, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Valkyria Chronciles, and the list goes on and on.

I think the main issue is that we don't have enough data at VGC to know how legs are going to be for a game like Star Ocean 4. They could be good, or bad, we just don't know. I find it interesting that you say that Killzone 2 has done great, comparing it to World at War, when we know that very (and I mean very) few FPS games have legs like CoD4 and WaW have had, yet you compare them to eachother.

Also, I'd love to know where I was basing the entire LTD of WKC off of 1 week of sales. It's first week was great, and I am pretty sure I said that in the Famitsu thread that we had.

So basically we should speculate on KZ2's costs?  I see you're taking a page out of starcraft's book...  x_x

60k is horrible.  And then you name how it beat out VC, Fire Emblem, and Persona which have never been as big as Star Ocean has been.  Don't try to compare apples and oranges.   Star Ocean has been around forever and has a huge name, while all of those are niche game series.

I said that Killzone 2 is tracking close to CoD: WaW for the first week that it's out, which means that it's in good company.  I didn't say it'd be that good, or sell better than it, but for the ones crucifying it's first week sales, we should also crucify CoD: WaW's first week sales, which are comparable to this.

60k opening for SO4 is a bomb? Provide me a link to SO3's first week sales in the US then. I'll gladly admit I'm wrong when you show me that. Otherwise, what games do we have from the PS2 mega-sales era that show exactly how their games had (or did not have) legs?

Now, for KZ2's budget:

Of course, I doubt what I've said will convince you. You already have it in your mind that KZ2 cost nothing, and was made for free by a love offering from Guerilla Games.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

lol... come back when you have a better understanding. we tried to explain things but you are too stubborn to learn.

LOL you're the one that's to stubborn to learn.  SO4 is already the second best selling 360 game in Japan after only TWO weeks of sales if you call that a failure guess what all publishers that release 360 games in Japan would wish for a similar failure.

bottom of first page. i also have a reasonable anylisis (at least i think so but no ones commented)

lol at the damage control, its a flop get over it.

Just another 360 flop not that it matters much its a jrpg its to be expected. Especially launching around a halo game and some GTA dc. 360 will never be a console for jrpg, they can buy of devs and games but sales will always suck.

The only bad thing is those games are flops due to being on 360, and unfortunately it hurt those franchises long term.

First off that link goes nowhere.

Second, did you just try to convince with a rumour?
