Forums - Gaming - IGN: Is Final Fantasy VII overrated?

Yes. Final Fantasy Vll was a incredible rpg but its not the best rpg. Everyone know that title belongs to Xenogears. Xenogears to me is underated. Even to this day Xenogears brings the best storyline and the most complex characters ever known to rpg.

No it is not

FF6 was a better game, but the importance of 7 can't be underestimated. It did alot for the RPG genre.

I am not giving them more hits. They already have hundreds of thousands of people going to their site everyday.

Is Final Fantasy VII overrated? Well after the good times it brought my brother and I, and what it did for the JRPG Genre/PS Brand, the simple answer, IMO, is no!

This...

Final Fantasy 7 for me is in my top 5 RPGs ever...

only being beaten by Final Fantasy 9, Mass Effect, Baldurs Gate 2 and Suikoden 2

I never got why people cried when Aries died. She annoyed the hell out of me, and I am glad she died.

The Guard Staff you stole from enemies in the train area was one of the best weapons for like the whole first disk.  In fact, she always seemed to have a weapon that was 1 step better than everyone else.  Her limit breaks were great and the only source of free in-battle healing until you got Yuffie.  Her level 4 limit break is gained very close to the time when she dies.

I was less upset about a character dying and more upset about a useful party member going away.  Still, I had Yuffie/Tifa/Vincent to make up for the loss.

One thing I don't get is why it surprised people when Aeris died. It was one of the most heavily foreshadowed events in the whole series.

Completely overrated---not even the best FF, in my opinion. I like 8 and 10 better. But I suppose it doesn't help that I played 7 after I had already played 8, 9, and 10. There's really nothing revolutionary about that game when you're playing it in 2002.

There was nothing revolutionary about FFVII when I played it in 1997.

I am totally biased when I say this, but yes.

FFVI > FFVII.
