Forums - Gaming - PS2 RPGs I should buy?

Added Front Mission 4 to the list of games I was perusing on eBay. I forgot about that one.  I hear folks rave about FM3...  are they good?

Did you like Xenosaga's story?  Admittedly some of the characters in Xenosaga were decent, but the main plot was kinda on the awful side (for me).

Magna Carta is a bad game with a Fantastic storyline. And that girl with amnesia has bigger secert then you think.

If the game's story isn't interesting enough to make a person care enough to make it to that big secret then it doesn't matter what it is, and precludes the game from having a "fantastic story" as it isn't fantastic from start to end.

The story does not kick off until about 15 hours in but when it did kick off i found it to be one of the best storylines I have seen in a rpg.But everything else about the game sucks hard.

That's a big no-no in my part. The story needs to hook me within the first few hours of the game, not halfway through. That's one of my biggest complaints for Xenosaga.

@pro, DDS and Nocturne don't have any sim-dating stuff. The combat for both DDS and Nocturne are basically turn based with a little twist. Each character has a full turn. Each action costs a full turn. When you expose the enemies' weakness, you only waste half a turn. If you miss, two turns are wasted. The games are difficult and requires you to strategize. Nocturne reminds me of Pokemon in some way.

Also I suggest Odin Sphere for the art and story. Combat is so-so.

Magna Carta is a 60 to 70 hour game though. What is 15 hour of an average story to 50 to 55 hours of a pure awesome story

Persona 3 & 4 are also 60+ hour games, and they didn't need to go into the 15 hour mark to get the story interesting.

Persona 3 and 4 benefitted from having a good writer unlike Magna Carta.

I have KH 1 & 2 (not the latest one though), Dark Cloud 1 & 2, DQ8, and I avoided LaPucelle because of its similarity to Disgaea.

I have *not* tried Phantom Brave, however. I was looking at it the other day, actually, and pondering it. That's not the game that's being remade soon for the PSP/Wii is it?

That's the one.

I have Steambot Chronicles and think it's very good. I actually couldn't put the game down because I liked it so much. Also, did you ever play Radiata Stories? That's another good RPG for the PS2.

I tried and tried to get into Magna Carta, but I just couldn't for some reason. I usually love RPGs and games Atlus publishes, but it just didn't do anything for me.

SMT Nocturne is one you should defintely try. It's worth the price, I'd say.

You do realize there are only a finite number of games made for each system right? Thats another reason why people love revisiting the past or upgrading to a new console.

since uve played most of ps2 rpg i recommend u to play psx there r a lot of good rpgs there like vagrant story the best one for me
