Forums - Gaming - WRPG or JRPG?

So which one do you like better? Western RPG or Japanese RPG

I personally like JRPG.

Around the Network

DnD rpg > JRPG > any other type of WRPG

WRPG.

They are way too freakin' different to even be compared. WRPGs give the player huge freedom to "customize" their story and experience, but JRPGs deliver fantastic and endearing stories with rigid guidelines.

I'd go with JRPS personally, but this is like comparing Fighting games to Action-Adventure games just because they both have fighting in them.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

As in Baldurs Gate - any game that uses the rules from dungeons and dragons

Shadowblind is right. JRPGs and WRPGs are too different to be compared. Besides, I haven't played enough WRPGs to get a fair opinion.

This...

Baldurs Gate 2 is the single best RPG ever made imo

Followed closely by Suikoden 2 (JRPG)

And then that is followed by Mass Effect (WRPG)

There is only one WRPG, and it is Planescape: Torment. All other so-called "WRPGs" are pale imitations of this masterpiece.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
