Forums - Nintendo - What went wrong with Deadly Creatures

There should have been more reviews too. I still don't understand why 200 copies of KZ2 get reviewed 2 weeks before its released and this only gets 26 - 30 reviews including people who obviously bought it after release. That stinks of lazyness from the publisher.

Secondly advertising? Well there a million ways to market this and they all relate to kids, not 6 yo but the manga cartoon teenager crowd sure.

I have to say its a friggin joke when the copies just arn't available at retail. I think HOTD has suffered this same plight but we'll see if anyone wants to fess up at some point.

Lastly, ill level with you, NOBODY, not even Nintendo, gives enough marketing and promotional hype to their games and i mean all games equally. Sega at least seems to be the pub. that sometimes can be bothered to market them. After DC's royal F up i can certainly understand why Conduit is with them.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

There are many games that are not advertized and get much more than 40k sales...

I think the mediocre reviews didn't help as well. This type of game needed to have garnered extremely positive reviews in order to stand a chance of being noticed by general public. The game is definitely better than a lot of crap thats on the system but it's hard to convince people to buy it when there's no great selling point.

hopefully it'll have some legs and cross 100K.. maybe ..

I think publishers are FU---N STUPID.

After SW Wii, GH, CoD WaW, RE, HOTD now, they still think if its not kiddy, cartoony, easy, simplified or include the PARTY Wii audiences will not buy it.

This is the chief problem here, studios with very little brains and narrow views of the audience.

Its a real hard game to market. Casuals won't touch it, kids (and others) will actually be scared of the main characters...

And the Wii is not a hard-core console as it is - it would have to be *exceptional* to get the hardcorers to pay attention to it.

To be honest, I'm not sure how it ever got green-lighted in the first place. Being "original" is not enough to spend money on dev.

@shams, don't be cynical pay attention ok

WE ARE NOT ALL CHILDREN, HOTD SOLD 80k in 1 1/2 weeks

All i can say is thank god someone took a damn risk with it. Thank god the Wii isn't all shooters. There were alot of PS360 gamers who were jealous of this being on the Wii. Alot of people liked it, maybe if they knew it existed and it was available at a shop then it might have sold more. Maybe if HOTD didn't kill the competition for that 1st week when Wii core buyers flocked to the higher profile game instead of the game that had little effort or made little noise when it was released.

For the average gamer there is a difference in what you play and what you control. It's a low psychology thing. Players tend to prefer to play people or people like. Players like to control things. Players don't few bugs and people. Players few bugs as things. It's mental association.

It's sorta like Eve Online. It would do better if you played a person, but the game emphasises that you are a ship.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

It has a pretty bland name, too. They should have picked a title that "jumps out" at you.

@megaman79

One of my points is how can THQ (or anyone) to convince gamers that playing as spider/scorpion is a cool thing to do (or something worth the money). I agree that we are all adults but there is no real hook for the game. I don't think the game would succeed even if it is released on PS360 with KZ2 like high def graphics.

However, I do agree with you that at least someone took a risk with it and offered something different. (Suddenly Let's Tap comes to mind as another example although not a hardcore title.) I just hope the developer for Deadly Creature would be able to secure fund to develope next game.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Advertise the game, thats about it.
