Forums - Gaming - Marvelous wants to step up from Wii to 'more hardcore platforms'

Off Topic: If anyone can tell me hot to beat the biotch in that picture it would be great. Yes I know I fail as a person cause this is an early part of the game, but throw a guy a bone will ya?

I'm not sure if u do this, but i used this to beat all the bosses:  U have to lock on (with Z) & sidestep (with analog stick left or right) to avoid most attacks.  Then after they use their strong attack at the end of their attack combo & are vulnerable, u attack them.

Hope that helps!

OT:  LoL @ No More Heroes w/o motion controls.  How mediocre would that be?

The motion controls are what make NMH the only game of its genre that I like.  And by like I mean LOOOOVE.

Does anyone else feel like the whole "hardcore vs. casual" is just a fallacious dichotomy perpetuated by gamers and the industry as a means of manipulating one another like so many puppets? Because I do.

YES! I agree that the HC/Casual gamer- nonsense is just a clever way to categorize the gaming public into two arbitrary and ambigous groups, and it doubles as an convenient excuse as to why a certain game fails/succeeds/whatever.  And, consequently, one of these groups is always (attempting to) ruin(ing) the industry, from a fanboys point of view. Sanity is for noobs, etc.

A good game is a good game, regardless of platform, genre, or technology. Yes, some games have more technical punch behind them, but that doesn't determine the quality of a game. I'm just as likely to have a blast playing a good platforming game on the Sega Master System as I am playing a good shooter on a 360 or PS3.

It's a shame many people aren't as open-minded about gaming as you are. But then again, the internet would be a much more boring place if everyone could respect others and their opinions.

For some reason it especially bugs me when developers use terms like "hardcore" or "casual" because the terms didn't exist until about two years ago, and everyone's definition varies anyway. I mean, I expect the usage of this word from 13-year-old fanboys trying to justify the fact that mom bought them Console A instead of Console B.

Exactly. They're buzzwords, just like AAA-game is, for instance. The best (and perhaps only) justification for buying a gaming device is, IMO, that it either has the games you like, or it will have the games you like.

If Marvelous would like to make games for the HD consoles, then awesome-- I can't wait to see what they come up with ... but to continue the false dilemma that the Wii isn't "hardcore" is a bit childish. Yes, a good chunk of the Wii's library is forgettable, and maybe the demographics are different and/or broader, but the good games, are good. Period. There's no lockout chip that prevents a "hardcore" game (whatever that is) from working on the Wii.

Pretty much this, again. Marvelous can develop for any platform that it wants/is able to, and if they can make great games, more power to them. And at the same time, Wii is perfectly able to support games for gaming enthusiasts and has proven this already with several sublime titles. Any developer with a half a brain should be able to see this already, even if they don't want to support the platfrom for one reason or another.

Sorry for the slightly off-topic rant. It's been building up for a while. I know, this is just one dudes opinion, but still, hearing the terms "hardcore" and "casual" makes me want to use my balls as a pin cushion until I'm manly enough to understand what it means to be hardcore.

No reason to apolozige - your post was probably one of the sanest things I've seen on this board, let alone this thread.

as long as they continue to make awesome wii games while developing HD games, thats fine with me, considering I have a PS3 also.

I only fear that if they make something on the HD consoles they'll try to make a game that fits the buyers needs, aka a FPS, TPS, something unoriginal and uninspiring

I don't get why an FPS or TPS has to be unoriginal or uninspiring.

They don't have to be... though that ends up being the case... 80%+ of the time or so.

That's why new and unpopular genres are usually the ones favored by those who don't like the "same old".  Said genres have to inovate and provide new and great expierences.

Even then if you do come up with somethign origonal or inspired it still might suck.

@outlawauron

viva pinata 1 was bundled. viva pinata 2 bombed. The DS version was profitable however, lol. Do u think 360 will get a 3rd one?

disgaea 3 bombed as well, do u think ps3 will get a 2nd one?

Kameo is a good example though.  Also Little Big Planet did well.  Both 1st party games, don't know if that is a coincidence.  But there are so few that it's a risk for producers to make creative games on HD consoles.

The second one bombed b/c it was just minigames, no? The first one was pretty decent. They should put in effort.

@sneaky

don't know what it is exactly, except that it is creative for an HD game & that it didn't sell well.

Making a PS3/360/PC games seems to be more about prestige than profits

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
